Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? That bar/stem combo is a little overly "artsy" but they're not terrible.

It kinda reminds me of Vector BMX handlebars - which were all the rage when I was a kid:

I guess things like reach, fit and handling weren't important back then.

"Flatland" didn't exist back when those Vector bars were being made.

The Two Bobs (Haro and Morales) were doing flatland in the early-mid 80's, weren't they? Do the Vector bars pre-date that?

Yeah, I recant. It was just more commonly known as "freestyle".

FWIW, those are Vector Bob Haro bars Wes Bourne is using in that video - which did have a slight forward reach.

Front pegs only, "pegs" built into the fork, full race kit, number plate, Skyway Tuff Spokes... Man, things have changed.

lol me and the wifey do spin class every week. good cardio, i burn about 800 calories in that hour.
we dont do anything like that tho haha...

basically the bikes have a little screen and a lever that controls the gear. instructor will call out a gear and a RPM, whether to sit or stand upright or down low, usually to the tempo of the music.
i actually think spin class is great exercise...roughly the same as doing a very brisk 20 mile ride. but it all depends on how cheesy/corny the instructor/music is though, ive been to some and i just couldn't handle the instructor and their bad music.
