Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Help, advice needed!

Hi,
After hard decisions, I have come to the last three bikes.
A. State bike
B. pure fix
C. Aerofix

Which would you recommend?

Thanks.

Bikes: BMX, fixed gear

None of those.

Is Kilo TT an acceptable answer again ha?

After making "hard decisions", those are the three you're left with?

Take some time reading the forum and actually doing some research on your own before limiting your choices to one of those ****ty bikes.

Of those you listed, the State bikes have to be the pick... Both PureFix and AeroFix are made of Hi-Ten steel and the State bikes are chromoly... The first run of State bikes was pretty terrible (and hi-ten), but they have gotten better over time. Also, they are pretty good guys, and have good customer service... Their component prices can be okay (not mentioning the quality of them) and shipping is always free.

I have a State bike, and I do love it BUT I think there are better options out there. The Kilo TT is the popular pick on BF and can be found at https://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mercier/kilott.htm... Bikes Direct actually lists what components come on the bike, what everything is made of and the geometry. You often wont find this info with the other pop-up companies. The Kilo TT has a 1" head tube if that matters to you...

If you have any questions about State stuff let me know... but before you decide on anything, do a little more research and consider all the options, not just the ones that have all the flash...

Rollerblades.

Seriously, what Scrod said, it's not hard to just look thru this forum and find out for yourself, Suck it up, spend an extra $100-200 and get a decent entry level bike.

I read State but my brain saw Republic.

State bikes aren't bad and Like JBH just said, they've improved quite a bit since they started out (as most companies do). It still won't hurt to do a little more research though.

Yeah those Republics are dumpster worthy... I haven't seen an AeroFix, but a guy I see riding around town has that PureFix that is grey with the orange rims... It looked okay when he first got it, but it is looking super rough now... probably has to do with how he is treating it though... Paint job was pretty bad new though...

I would recommend getting a Bianchi Pista. You can pick one up for around 600. It's what I ride!

I can't believe I'm agreeing with the kilo tt crowd, but it seems like the right choice for you.

I have a state it's nice, but the only bike I can compare it to is buddies pure fix. My components are nicer than his but they both work, so it depends what your needs out of the bike are.

So far, the saddle sucks and the left pedal makes popping noises under heavy load. I should probably get a new set, but first is a saddle.

Those stainless frames near the end look pretty cool.

Are those frames actually about $250 USD? I wish I lived in Taiwan.

I'm surprised you can only find one fixed gear shop. A lot of the frames we buy in the United States come from Taiwan.
