Help with possible pedal strike with a Langster

Long story short, went to LBS to inquire about components to convert an old steel Fuji. Was offered and accepted a killer deal on a new Vegas Langster.

It's a small frame 53.4 (?) top tube. Should fit me perfectly. However the crank set was cannibalized for some reason. The owner is gonna put a set of Dura Ace cranks (130 MM BC, they are a road set) with 170mm arms on. Stock was 165. But for free as an upgrade. I can't argue with a DA set. I'm just a little worried about pedal strikes. I do want a 130 BCD instead of 144. The area I live in is mountainous (Central PA). The 130 will give me better chain ring choices. I'm gonna start at 39 and 16. I have an older 42 I can use too.

Initially I'll throw a set of platforms on just to get used to it. Then a set of 520's or 540 SPD's will go on when I'm confident enough to go clipless.

I'm hoping some of you Langster owner's would know if there will be clearance issues. I'm stoked to get a Langster new for what I was going to spend on parts to convert an old frame. And it's a Las Vegas edition to boot. Can't wait till Saturday.

Its half a centimeter. Look at a ruler, and tell me that thats going to make a real difference on the road. As long as you don't corner like an idiot, you'll be fine. (I've had a lot of beer, sorry if I came off as an ass)

Platform pedals will make more of a difference than 5mm of pedal length. The added width of platforms make pedals strikes a lot easier; it may not seem so obvious but when I had GR9's on my Kilo TT, I would occasionally scrape when cornering hard. After the switch to clipless, I have yet to get pedal scrape.

Pedal strike is not that big of a deal. I only crash like once a week because of it. Sometimes even less. It doesn't take that long to get back up so I'm not even that late when it happens.

weekly crashes? you need to open up your schedule so you arent rushing all the time.

i have had three or four pedal scrapes with my gr9s since ive had them (~3 years). however, i do run 165s.

just dont lean like god knows what.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Just take corners slowly until you find the point where pedal strike occurs. If it turns out to be too slow for your liking, then replace the arms with shorter arms.

Somebody just won Employee of the Month at your LBS. Pedal strike is nbd. Just don't lean too far and you'll be fine.

I wanna thank you guys for you're resposes. My B'Day is tommorrow (Sunday). It's my present to me. The Langster is safely home now. I got is as NOS at dealer cost. The owner just did not have a SS crankset for it. So he threw a used (hardly) Dura Ace set on for me. I have a set of cheapie platforms on for now just till I get used to it. I'll then put some SPD's on it. Can't wait till nexgt weekend. Supposed to be in the 50's and daylight savings time goes into effect. I'm stoked over it. I'll give it a run next weekend.

Thanks for the help. I am a newbie to FG/SS. Just starting the learning, thanks again.
