Dude, I live in Chicago (flat as **** because it was built on a ****ing swamp!) and there are places within an hour that I wish I had gears for. The fact that i can muscle up them at 12mph doesn't mean that I don't want gears.

Come to think of it, my gf's Motobecane Track is semi-fixed. It's a freewheel, but when she's walking it, the pedals still turn, haha. And no, the "drag" from pedaling backwards doesn't helping in slow down at all.

Don't get why people ride fixed?
I fell in love the first time I rode it. It demands a whole new skill set over bikes with a freewheel, and I'm not referring to riding brakeless or skidding. I'm no slower or faster riding fixed vs gears, and my riding features terrain that taxes those with gears, it's certainly not flat. Fixed gear makes my heart sing - I need no more excuse than that.

I'd love my dad to get a tricycle, it'd get him riding and exercising and probably extend the time I have with him. On the other hand, my sister (younger) has medical issues that prevent her from riding on two wheels. A tricycle would increase the time I have to put up with her. Like me, she's in her fifties, Dad's in his eighties. Trikes aren't just for spoiled kids.

That issue is common with a lot a cheapo freewheels. It may go away with time, it may explode.

this happens on all my freewheelin bikes with square taper bb's. not with external bb's cause they don't spin as freely.
