Walmart Thruster Fixie
Anyone ridden it? I want to venture into the land of a fixed gear / fixie and while I know I'm going to get flamed for suggesting this, but I am considering the $99 Walmart Thruster. I'm not looking for a super light or amazing track bike, just an entry level fixie to replace my hybrid on campus after summer ends. I have a decent Schwinn hybrid I picked up at target for $299, and while it gets the job done, it's just not amazing on road or off road for that matter. I mainly ride street or sidewalk so I thought a fixie would be great for what I do.
Experiences with the Thruster. Positive? Negative?
I understand it's not going to be a botique bike but would it be solid enough for at least 8 months and 500-800 miles of wear with practically no maintence?
Thanks all.

You get what you pay for. Just don't expect much. I would assume that prolonged periods of riding on that bike will really feel like crap though.
Based on the shipping weight, I assume it'll be heavy as hell. Shipping weight is 40.4 lbs.
Oh and it... kind of looks like an eyesore. Might just be me though.
EDIT: But if all you are doing is riding it from point A to point B on campus or w/e. Go for it.

Seems like after reading things from both those links you listed that if you go into the bike knowing it's cheap, you won't be too let down. I might just surf the local CL for a while to see if I can get a used fixie from a decent name for like $200. Currently theres nothing less than $300-450 and I don't want to spend that much for a bike that will end up sitting outside most it's life. You can find good deals if you keep an eye on CL. Got a Marin 2 years old and 1,000 miles used for 1/2 retail with almost $80 in extras.
Full time college student with a part time job on the side, I don't have much time for any tinkering during the school year. Any brand names I should watch for that are generally low maintence?
