Agreed. Empathy/civility seems to be in short supply here at times. I guess a lot of these folks were just born experts and never had to go through the trouble of things like, idk, learning. How dare someone just getting into biking have the nerve to ask a question that's been asked before? The cool kids that pay a lot of money to hang out here don't have time for... wait, what? This is a free site? And you're not obligated to read every thread? Well, holy sh*t... you wouldn't know that from the uptight jerks that get their panties in a twist every time they *shudder* have to read a question they've already answered once or twice before.
Which is justification for some of these people's dickish behavior how, exactly?

Besides when a Roadie changes from the 4th to the 7th cog on their cassette their chainline is off more than the 5mm you say your's is off. I don't see a bunch of geared bike riders along the roadways dicking with their bottom brackets because of that.
Ride your 5mm for a while and see if it really matters.
Besides, the real reason it isn't perfect is because the world is round.

the wheelset i had was meant for a 6 speed threaded freewheel. i simply took a spacer from the driveside and added it to the non drive side, then redished the wheel to center.
chainline is perfect, and no problems with the redishing after a year or so of riding.

The basic deal is............the answer to your problem IS THERE to be found on Google. If you don't start your thread as having exhausted the searches on Google that you can think of the responders are left to wonder-----if it isn't worth your time to type questions, why is it worth their time to type answers to questions that can be found with ease and a true desire to find them.

I googled **** when I was a noob. Skipped the embarrassment. Now I'm just cool as ****, and literally know everything about bikes.

Or maybe people might like to start a conversation... is it that bad to forgo the goog and just ask advice from experienced bike fans? Maybe the interaction with real people is more satisfying than a search result. I really don't get why repeat questions bother people so much. Chill the f*** out and stop alienating people who are just like you once were. We all start out as noobs, for f**** sake.
this thread has run it's course ha?
