@johnnytheboy Its in Eskridge, Kansas on Oct 26th, I believe its only the second year they are doing. Its called Jagger (google jagger gravel race) I read somewhere that 15 people entered last year. Its 3 laps of a 13 mile loop that looks like this... This year there are 25 people going on Facebook if that means anything haha.

Then on Sat Nov, 2 there is Gravelicious in Platte, Mo. It has two options: loop 1 is 58 miles and you can stop after that, but there is an additional 52 mile different loop if you want to do the full race.

Fall and spring weather are the worst because it's unpredictable, will be dry and sunny then the second you start riding, it's pouring out. Winter is better because it's just cold and rainy all the time so you can dress without worry of weather changes.

Expect to get hailed on a couple of times a year too, it's a blast.

The only cold weather gear I have is a pair of arm warmers from RG. That's enough right? :(

oxymoron. 42 mi is likely too much to promote recovery, relative to not riding at all. even at grandma pace

After yesterday's metric (I rode hard and into the wind) today was a recovery ride. Trust me, coach.

Just get a good light rain jacket and rain pants and just layer from there. Coldest it will ever really get down to is in the mid teens but that's like peak night time.

a conventional definition is that it will leave you more recovered than if you didn't ride at all - like <1hr at kindergardener pace

either way, nice riding :thumb:

My job is moving to a new office next week and I just scoped out the bike parking situation: Hardly a rack in sight and only a handful of poles :(

finished at 583mi for the month. also, in the top 9% in strava's "the extender"...not that i even know what that means.
legs dead, sunburned, dehydrated....days like this make me love bicycles more and more.

7 miles to go today and I'll hit my 1000 miles this month. The commute home is 15.5, but I think I'm going to stretch it out another 5-10 miles.

Then I'm done with these silly goals for awhile and am going to concentrate on having fun on the bike.

Yesterday I bought a humidifier for my bedroom. Today I'm considering getting a purifier too.

Came home with my jersey pockets stuffed full. Wished I had more room.

Today I built my first wheel. Took it to the local pro shop and the mech there said it was all good with even tension :D Pretty happy considering I didn't have a truing stand or dish stick.

Check out North Face or Columbia's stores for some last years stock stuff possible if you are looking for cheap. I grabbed a NAU jacket last year for free and while it's nice, I wouldn't suggest paying the 250~ for full retail on it.

LesterOfPuppets 09-30-13 07:36 PM

Tomatillos?

I got an REI branded jacket from REI that is great for cycling because it is long in the back and close fitting. It also has armpit vents for when you get warmed up.

Mumonkan 09-30-13 08:03 PM

i gotta step up my game on the gear front this season, need booties, better facemask, better gloves, and a rain shell with pitzips

Today I brewed a barley wine for the brewpub to release around Christmas. Should be a bigun at around 14% abv if our numbers are correct.

Oh yeah, was also clipped on the right side by some punk ass kid on a BMX on my ride into work. I didt go down, but he did, lol. My first thought was why isn't this kid in school, then I remembered I live in Hanover, and parents don't seem to care about their children around here.

Today I went to work for 30 minutes and then got sent home because there were no pick ups or deliveries to do. I still got 3 hours of pay so whatevers. I decided to ride around and ended up buying a couple of things I've been needing for a while now. I got a new air gauge from Performance and a clip-style masterlink for my chain so I can take it off without ruining the pins.

YoEdgar 09-30-13 10:13 PM

Today I went to meet up the kid who wanted to trade me his super pista for my bolt.
Found out it was a 51 and not a 53 like I thought he mentioned last week. Top tube on the sz 51 pista is 525 and my sz 53 bolt is 530 so not much difference but it just felt really small riding it around. Im gonna try and find somebody with a 53.
