Just got my seagull black bag medium in the mail today!
cant wait to use it, so far i love it.

Got hit by a car at the start of my ride today.

Common sceanrio: Driver turning right into shopping center in front of me, doesn't check mirror, cuts me off. I had like a full 2 or 3 seconds where I knew I was going down, so I rolled off the top of the hood no problem. No scratches or bruises even.

I made him pull in the lot so I could check the bike. Hoods turned inward, stem/bars slightly off center, scuffed tape... but no real damage. I wanted to keep riding and finish my tempo ride so I decided not to call the cops. I did, however, check his documents myself and record all of the pertinent contact, vehicle and insurance info.

No harm no foul this time I guess.

The reason for going wider than 25mm is to handle the occasional forays on gravel/dirt roads or really bad roads.

Those Fulcrums are totally decent for stock wheels. I can't speak for the particular off/crap roads you find yourself on, but I would feel safer rolling into unknown territory on tubeless 25s rather than clincher 28s. Taking pinch flats out of the equation is huuuuuuuge.

When you test ride the two, are you going to be able to try the tires you want or will the bikes be on their stock 23s?

Do you mean tubeless clinchers or tubulars ? I don't want to ride tubulars and have to carry a spare that I couldn't glue on properly if I had to change it out on the road due to a flat. The choices in tubeless clinchers is limited, they are expensive and require a tube once they have been compromised. I will be riding the Cervelo 105 10-speed with its stock 700x23c Vittoria Rubino Pro tires, which I definitely would not use, and are not the tires that come on the 2014 Ultegra 11-speed model that I would be buying. I won't ride a Synapse, because they don't have one. If I do buy the Cervelo, I will probably initially swap the stock tires out with 700x25c Conti 4000s tires. Conti is supposed to offer a new model 4000s II in a 700x28c size that I could put on the rear.

I can't imagine tt getting many pinch flats no matter what the road conditions.

I'm not worried about pinch flats as much as narrow tires getting caught in ruts or being slippy on loose stuff. Last summer I was riding the Leader with 22mm tubulars and they got caught in a crack in the pavement and I almost ate it. It chewed up the sidewalls so badly that I had to replace them. Actually, I've never gotten a pinch flat with a tire that was at least 25mm wide in the rear and 23mm in the front. I have, however, destroyed rims in potholes along with assorted broken bones.

What have you used that was better/the most comfortable?
I own a Seagull bag, and it seems fine, but I have never owned another messenger style bag.

GENESTARWIND 12-31-13 03:23 AM

love my bag, crammed it full of flat repair stuff, work clothing/shoes, work knives, spare clothing/shoes in case i went anywhere after work, body spray ect ect plus got four tall boys after work and if i had to i could cram quite a bit more. The medium bag fits my frame pretty good and sits well on my shoulder and the bag is the perfect size for what i was looking for. It isnt big and bulky or too small either. Good medium lol

It also has just enough pockets, which is why i ordered the black bag instead of their regular. If anything id lower where the top of stabilizing strap sits by an inch or two but thats it.

but each to his own and on that note, i like it i like it i like it.

It's a personal thing. Tons of people love Chrome bags but I find mine is only comfortable if I have a full load in it -- otherwise it's just built too big for skinny me.

Today I sat in my room and played my guitar for hours. Then I went to the bar. It was a good day.

GENESTARWIND 12-31-13 05:13 AM

Ill take a picture of mine loaded up and empty tomorrow.

I think I'm fine thanks!

I'm visiting my grandparents, and my parents grew up here too, so I'm just following them around haha.

We went to the Pok Fu Lam peak yesterday, and I've basically been eating non-stop since I've gotten here. It's awesome.

Today I want to get my last ride of the year outside but I really don't enjoy riding 20s.
edit
I went out, it was miserable.

yesterday my telecatser became an esquire...took out the neck pickup, replaced the pickguard and swapped the bridge pickup w/ a duncan quarter pound.

TejanoTrackie 12-31-13 02:40 PM

Today I got caught out in the snow, still finished my 40 miles though.

GuitarBob 12-31-13 04:56 PM

Hard to beat talk of guitars (and maybe even toilets!) but today I finished the Strava 500 km challenge, with my "big" day (120 km) on my single speed.

Nagrom_ 12-31-13 06:58 PM

All of my infractions expired.

Huffandstuff 12-31-13 07:19 PM

Today some guy with no lights and riding on the sidewalk called me a **** head cause I cut him off as he decided to go kiddy corner across the intersection.

Well, people are stupid and think they are never in the wrong, when in fact they are the ones that are doing the wrong thing. Been routinely dodging the same person riding wrong way down the road helmetless.
