On this night I slow danced with Francine the Dancer :D I have noticed her around the city my entire life and I get a dance with her.

Did my first 40k tt yesterday, 26mi to be exact and I was under geared on my fixed gear. I decided to just use 46/17 to see how I'll do on this gear and was only able to do a 21.8mph average speed with a average cadence of 103rpm. It took me 1'12" and was the most brutal race I've done so far. This has got to be the flattest 40k course around here and it sure was fast. Hopefully I'll be more prepare next time.

Today I built up a new whip for my 14 year old daughter... the bike was a gift from a customer and all I had to do was swap out the dead 1 1/8 fork for the Mars Elite I just took off my Blizzard.

Nope, based on the rides you've done I am pretty sure that you have been put on this earth to make amends for some horrible things you have done in past lives, or something like that. You are here to suffer. Onward.

karma's a *****?

:P This one has me thinking I may not finish, but thanks?

edit: dammit, I can't say that. It will put the Straggler to great use.

Go for it and best of luck. Someday soon, we will be cheering whilst you ride PBP.

Hairnet I may have missed it but what is the total elevation gain?

Today I go to the doc and see if he will give me a shot in the knee to help heal tendonitis I got a week ago Saturday from a case of the "stupids". I did a 55 mile ride with some friends at a moderate pace through rollers and changed my gearing from 70 to 66 which was perfect for the ride except I jamed up a lot of rollers seated where with the 70 I would have stood. Lessons Learned!

Interesting, I think this is the first time I have heard of someone hurting their knees by lowering their gearing.

But I do get that if the gearing is too low, it is less appealing to get out of the seat to push a hill without slowing down some.

rex615 i posted 'cause I learned the hard way. Makes sense when I think about it now. At my tender years I will have to be more careful not to hurt the tendones. My muscles can take a lot more stress then the tendons. Off to face the needle.

Hope you heal soon. I don't envy your encounter with the needle.

Today I decided i want to build a five speed. 47 x 13-15-17-20-23. if i use a nice japanese frame and a nice japanese track crankset with nice japanese 120mm hub and a nice japanese freewheel, should it work? what kind of derailleur would i need? short cage? long cage? i dont know anything about that stuff, but i want to. will chainline be terrible? will my chain fly off? do i need a special piece to keep the chain on the ring just in case? just wondering. i wanna build dis boi up doe.

Hmmm... anything Japanese should be fine.

Seriously, though. http://sheldonbrown.com/chainline.html Chainline for a multispeed freewheel should be fine with a track crankset, but why would you bother? For quick SS conversions? Just build it up fully geared and keep a second SS rig.

bro 07-01-14 07:44 PM

Today I prolly the wrong thread but there isnt really a "conversation thread" or a "things i want" thread

i found this, so it seems to be possible. Mercier Kilo Team 1X5 - Pedal Room

i want it to be like a 70s-80s style time trial bike sorta dealio. might do it with an njs frame, and drill dat boi, make ppl cry

suntour errythang? hgmmmm

hockeyteeth 07-01-14 07:50 PM

Oh, god. Please don't do that.

bro 07-01-14 07:56 PM

Today I hahah, if i did, you'd love it. it'd be easier than finding a vintage tt frame. but if someone just wants to give me one of these that would be okay. no honestly, i wouldnt buy an njs frame and drill it. i'd just use some old columbus sl frame that fits me.

Today I took my new Chrome Forged shoes out for the first ride.
Initial thoughts: they are the most uncomfortable, well marketed, over priced, piece of crap shoes I've ever put on my feet. Couldn't enjoy my commute for the constant rubbing (with socks).

Gonna try some thicker socks on the next ride.

Mumonkan 07-02-14 05:35 AM

usually shoes have to be broken in.

That's weird because I got the ones without laces and I think they're super nice. Hmmm.
