My experience (with Stronglight doubles, anyway) is that Campagnolo spindles are a reasonable substitute. Or is your BB one of the sealed bearing units?
I lean more toward fitting some sort of sealed unit into place for the set it and forget it effect. I've been using a sealed Miche Primato BB for about a decade on my Mercian with no issues, and I truly wish one of those would fit this bike and the Phil Wood mount rings ... |

Have you tried it? It might be worth making the attempt.

Unfortunately, the diameter of the Miche sealed cartridge unit (and the similar budget Campagnolo units for square taper cranks) is too small to fit correctly into Phil Wood rings. The only units I know for sure will fit into the Phil rings are Phil BBs and older Shimano UN72s from back when the drive side threaded ring wasn't a part of the housing.

I really need to stock up...instead I'm plotting out tattoos to cover scars that never seem to go away. mtbing has not been kind to my legs.

Today I got a ticket to see Lifetime in Oct. Beyond psyched.

Today was the first day of the new semester in welding school. It feels good to be back. I played some Zelda afterward and went to work at the co-op. I refurbished this old Peugeot from the pile of donation bikes we have. It took the whole night but it rides quite nicely now.

spending too much money on ebay trying to get parts/accessories for the Rush Hour I just bought.
Finally took the leap and ordered some DZR shoes, gonna try SPDs for the first time. |

Today I finally got around to go to the doctor's office for a check up and get some blood work done.
Appearantly my sqrl's employer provided health insurance is pretty good and underappreciated on my part. This entire time I thought my copay of $10 was high until the guy behind me had to fork over $40 for a single visit. |
Last time I had blood work done, my insurance company claimed I no longer existed and refuse to pay the bill. I'm still dealing with that mess.

Today I received a phone call that my dad suffered a massive heart attack and flatlined in the EMS on the way to the hospital. He's in for surgery first thing tomorrow. We've had a rough year as we just lost my mom to cancer in February. This has been a great, friendly forum as I'm learning bike stuff. I hate to ask more of you guys, but I would appreciate any good thoughts you guys could send our way.

Today my bottom bracket starter creaking/groaning whenever I put it under extreme stress (uphill acceleration, strong acceleration from standstill, etc...)
It's the original 1986 Fuji Allegro BB... might be time to think about pulling that sumbish and having it checked out. Trouble is... I'll be commuting (super short only 2 miles to work, 2 miles home) at least once a day every day until Saturday night. I hate having to ride on a questionable component. |
Thanks for the kind words guys!
owlex: be careful on that BB. It's probably nothing major, but be extra careful anyway. Hope you get it worked out. Be safe out there! |
Prayers going up for you and your father!

I hope things go well for your father, sounds like you got a positive update earlier which is great. In regards to the bb... I had it pulled and checked out today, everything was fine. the creaking was eliminated by tightening the cranks down |
