i couldve been done already but going through a transfer process which messed up my whole financial aid situation made me take a break, and id rather just work now if i have the option.

not exactly looking forward to waiting another 2 years to just do more jobsearching. i just want one fulltime job i can count on that doesnt make me wanna blow my brains out. i dont think thats so much to ask.

Good luck on that. I'm seriously contemplating leaving my trade as an auto body tech, I love the work but can't stand the people of the industry(far right leaning politically), just can't quite figure out what I want to do that pays even half of what I make now.

This something that happens the longer you stay in a profession/trade, you get to the point that it is kinda the only sellable skill you have. Sure you can change professions, but now you are starting from scratch and competing with people that have more current training.

I agree that clients can sometimes be very aggravating. Don't let the actions of others disturb your inner peace. I know, easier said than done.

There are people like that in Portland?

Mumonkan 01-21-15 06:25 PM

the problem im faced with is that at my main job the people are great, but i do literally nothing all day, i essentially get paid to watch netflix and shop online (sounds a lot better than it actually is) and the other job i do stuff, but its meaningless work and the people are all ***holes

ill accept something somewhere inbetween

They come in from Vancouver, WA and constantly complain about how they hate Portland.

Speaking of school, today was the first day of school. It's finally my last semester. I've been in school full time every semester since I graduated high school (2007). All this time just for a bachelors. That's what happens when counselors suck and when you change majors a few times. All well, I'm almost done.

johnnytheboy 01-21-15 09:50 PM

today i haven't ridden a bike in 2 months. broke up with my girl, got depressed, starting seeing a different girl every night and bikes got lost.
depression man, why?!

Riding bikes helps.

Today I pulled my lower back at the gym third set in. Probably done for a week now, which is aggravating. Started watching The Wire from the beginning...so much fantastic dialogue.

Here is some advice. Get on your bike and ride, ride like hell! Ride away from the B.S. and somewhere new and exciting. The only other nipples you need are attached to spokes ; )

GENESTARWIND 01-21-15 10:12 PM

I'm now 10 pounds away from dead lifting 1.5x my body weight. I'm happy.

I can deal with standard fare right wing stuff, grew up upper middle class in the south. Just zone out and troll instagram until they calm down about "the poors".

Portland has this weird off brand libertarianism mixed with "the poors are trying to steel my half acre trailer home in Gresham, they need to work for what I did" mentality. Its baffling, had a dude at work tell me sandy hook was a false flag, I nearly cracked a molar.

I may need to holler at you about painting an RX7 if you're down to do side work though.

I don't do paint work, just body but I know people and they can probably give you a decent deal.

This is solid advice.

Congrats! It's always exciting to meet gym goals. My goal was to bench 300lbs. Got to 270lb bench when I weigh 185. Then I got a hernia from a car crash and had surgery. I lost 20lbs and a lot of strength. I am now no longer able to lift heavy for the rest of my life. Big bummer. I still go to the gym though and work out hard. I just have to do low weight and lots of reps

Why don't you try to be less of an obnoxious jerk? Not everyone is a self-centered tool like you and deals with life differently. Maybe you though you were being supportive in your own abrasive way, but that really comes across like a condescending criticism. I'm surprised you haven't been banned yet.

Unkle Rico 01-22-15 11:38 AM

Its to early for people to be so serious right now

Love that movie.

iTripped 01-22-15 12:51 PM

This morning I peeled off my shellacked bar tape. I need to change stems, which means a re-do of the job I did last summer. I was very worried about how difficult it would be to get the bars clean but it really was a non-issue. I used an exacto blade to cut the tape at the end of the bar and was able to unwind it relatively easily. The whole thing felt like snakeskin as it was coming off. There is a very little bit of shellac residue up around where I had twine on the bar, but I'm certain that will come off easily with a dab of Goo-be-gone or something similar.

I'll have ample time to set up this bar/stem combo so the real question is: should I look into polishing up the stem before reassembly? I've never done that before but really liked the results that some of the other guys in this forum have had.

Unkle Rico 01-22-15 01:40 PM

I'd do it -- at least clean it up really well. When i picked up my centurion initially, i wet sanded a lot of parts down but mainly the cranks and stem. Gives it a cleaned up look with out being all sparkly and polished -- just a look i like.

I'd hit it with some sandpaper/scotch pad first and then polish it with compound if you want it to be more shiny!
