Therefore, it has never happened in the history of the world. Ever.

Installed a 1/8th crankset on my sqrls bike last night, quality wasn't nearly as awful as I thought a 35 dollar crankset would be.

Word. Ethiopian light roast is working right now for tomorrow. Love me some cold brew.

Broke a spoke in the rear. Low spoke count, had to walk it to LBS. Thankfully, there was 5 within walking distance to choose from.

Hey Austin kids...I'll be in Austin (East Austin near 8th St. and Prospect, I think) Thursday through Tuesday (5/7-5/12) for Austin Psych Fest, any good bike shops nearby? I don't really need anything, just would like to pick up a tshirt or a hat or something.

Also, hows the bike share there? We have one fairly close to my house, so on a slow day, I might rent a bike and wander around a bit if it's worth it.

You'll be in a great part of town. Hit up East Side Pedal Pushers, Cycleast and Fast Folks(has really good coffee). Austin B Cycle has tons of rental stations, but also check out Spokefly....more 'normal' types of bikes. We should meet up for a beer or two if you get some free time. LOADS of awesome grub to be had. Happy to suggest if you like.

Today I got in 42 miles.

How does cold brewing work? I've heard it mentioned a couple times recently, and I want to try it out.

Muffin Man 05-05-15 08:56 PM

I'm pretty sure I've spent more time on my road bike off road than I have on pavement.

johnnytheboy 05-05-15 09:17 PM

then you're doing it right.
tom ritchey's thoughts on "gravel bikes" (taken from road bike review march 2013):

"i thought all road bikes were gravel road bikes? I’ve been riding my bikes on gravel and more accurately—unpaved dirt roads and trails—for decades. It’s good to see 25c tires and wider rims coming back, and more importantly the clearance on bikes to run these bigger rims and tires. For some reason the bike industry ‘innovated’ away from this many years ago, and for a while many top-end carbon bikes haven’t even had room for 25c tires, much less a broken spoke. Now we’re ‘innovating’ back to where we started. I’m glad to see it, as this style of riding is what I like to do most and it’s what my products are designed for."

Awesome, thanks for the tips! Some of my friends have been there in the past and have some spots they want to visit, but will definitely hit you up if we get a chance. We're staying through Tuesday, so hopefully we'll have some free time on Monday!

The flavor leeches out of the leaves/ beans as water seeps in displacing the flavor contained within.
Takes a significantly longer time though vs hot where water molecules are more excited making the above process happen faster.

Ok. So its basically making coffee with cold water? Do you just put the grounds and water in a jar/mug/whatever, and then leave it in the fridge?

Part right but you want to let the coffee steep at room temperature for like a day or so. Course ground coffee, strain and filter out the bits.

You'll notice that the cold brewed stuff is sweeter, smoother, and less tongue burny.

Mumonkan 05-06-15 05:18 AM

you can use your french press, i decided to put the grinds in a steel nalgene bottle, add 2 mugs worth of water and popped it in the fridge overnight

~12 hrs later in the morning i filtered it through a coffee filter into a pitcher with horchata i had left
