Looking at the new Mash video, 90% of the riders have Boss Hogg bullhorn hood ornament handlebars...any idea where this trend came from? (even cyclecross still use drops)
Seems a bit odd to use wider bars on a city bike when having to maneuver through traffic/tight spots.

I do get a kick out of the stem hold though...it's like buying an extra large steering wheel for your car but holding around the center hub.

A lotta dirt riding in that teaser, wide bars better for that. I didn't see any superwide bars in there, maybe 26"

Hardly any more messenger gigs, so no one rides messenger setups anymore?

Playing in traffic is played out?

OG MTBers were rollin' super wide MC bars. Then by the early '90s MTB bros all went super narrow 20" bars, I think mainly for weight weenieing, but claimed that wide bars sucked cuz you'd clip a tree with them and die. Now the pendulum is on wide bars again.

i blame it on the fgfs weirdos.

SF is quite hilly as well so I could see practicality behind using wide bars

What does wide bars have to do with hilly?

Unkle Rico 09-10-15 09:22 AM

I was just agreeing with what Huffandstuff said:

"Wide handlebars in theory are supposed to help with climbing since you open your lungs and have ample leverage to push and pull."

Of course, the benefits of the wider bars and opening your lungs are only achieved by holding your bars not next to the stem.

Sherblock 09-10-15 12:22 PM

Wow this means I had wide bars before MASH..

I've made it everyone.

Mumonkan 09-10-15 12:33 PM

****ing hipster scum.

Found a buyer for my purple Nature Boy.

Inquired with the LBS about picking up a 2015 Honzo, apparently there are still a few in the warehouse. Steel. Hardtail/front sus. 1x10 with sliders, so easily convertible to SS.

Hey dudes,
I'm not someone from mash, but all those guys are my friends and I am in the video trailer. You can see me crash on my orange KHS at :44

You guys are looking into it too hard, it's not really that big a deal, and it's not a new thing.
This is my rush from nearly 4 years ago:

check out the '16s they have on the site now, they updated a lot of stuff. im on the fence between the new explosif (which is an amazing deal parts wise) or building a soma b-side

I like the Honzo AL DL but not at a few hundred more than a clearance-priced '15.

yeah i figured id just throw it out there if you hadnt looked already.

there tends to be a lot more detailed nerding out over parts and spec on mtb world since theres so many ****ing "standards" now with the explosion of wheel sizes and + tires and disciplines

Not bad at all, that is excellent progress for just a few days. Congrats.

I think being to gas weld well made a difference even though it has been over a year since I have done that. I'm having to relearn how to have a consistent travel speed and wire feed.

Maybe it targets people from Dallas or those who drink Miller Lite/Bud Lite ;)

Thankfully, I've never had any issues swimming there.
