So, this wasn't today, but Sunday last week. Riding through a park in downtown Portland with a few friends, probably doing about 20-25-ish, went straight off an 8-stair that I didn't see until it was too late. Cleared them all by about 30', hit the ground and went straight over the front. Hit the ground right shoulder and ear first, and almost completely ripped my right ear off my head.

Taken to the ER and spent about 21 hours at OHSU, surgical re-attachment of my right ear and 8 stitches over my right eye. Severed all of the nerves in my ear so I no longer feel any pain in it or have much sensation (sorry ear nibbler girls, stick to the left), and ripped almost all the cartilage in my ear away from my skull, so the reattachment is mostly flesh alone, but they were also able to reattach all of the blood vessels and restore normal circulation so I hopefully shouldn't lose any of it.

I'm the same way. I don't wear a helmet more often than I do. my helmet rules are: night, group rides (I don't trust other riders) and rain. I recently started wearing my s-works prevail again...it's so light and comfy I might just wear it full time now.

Yeah, I need to get a rad helmet I actually like.

My commute was quite eventful. Just barely limped back on the squishiest ride ever.

Pretty similar to me, I only wear a helmet when racing, sometimes when I'm working and if I'm gonna be doing some dumb/sketchy. I recently picked up a Giro Synthe and it's so damn comfortable, I'm actually starting to wear it more cause it doesn't bother me.

Also, why are you going 20~ mph in a park? Unless you were in the waterfront park, which even then is a stretch.

This has never happened to me. I have always been curious but never felt like asking. Now I will. How does one get a puncture on the side of the tire? And in your case it's pretty jumbo. How/what?

Yesterday was the first "real" day of nice weather here. I rode my ~29lb Varsity 22 miles while wearing a 10lb backpack in 85 degree sunshine. Felt good.

I most likely ran over some sharp metallic road debris going downhill/ at a high rate of speed on a previous ride which I most likely noticed but shrugged off as nothing. Unfortunately, this was a mortal wound to the tire sidewall. Then I kept riding with this unbeknownst to me, until a blowout such as this, happened sooner or later.

Being a commuter, I ride in and out on it everyday and aside from checking up on the pressure, chain wear, and minor adjustments to the drivetrain; I did't really think about looking over the "bulletproof" tires until I start getting recurring pinhole flats.

35 miles of mostly lime rock roads on the cross bike. So tight. Also saw the largest Live Oak tree in Florida along the way.

No pedestrian traffic at the time. It was up in Pettygrove park, we started at the top of the pedestrian trail, the staircase I tried to take flight from is right after that big gold statue after the first crosswalk.

50 mile mtb race today

it rained all night, stopped long enough to enjoy most of one 25mi lap, then about 20 miles in it rained hard long enough to make everything worse. super technical rocks and roots were like riding on ice all day. my hands are so obliterated that i can barely grip things.

Ha, my second guess was the walkway on 2nd and market so yea, I do kind of understand how those stairs can come out of nowhere.

Today I relocated a huge black widow spider that was in the process of weaving egg sacs from the inside of a rarely used cabinet in my pantry to outside behind my garage. I'm sure she wasn't very happy about it but at least there won't be a thousand baby black widows in my house next month.

I'd relocate that ***** with the bottom of my shoe!

Well, it's funny, because the guy leading our ride told us there were stairs before we started through there, and they came up WAY sooner than even he thought. He managed to see them and locked up the brakes in time, I thought it was just a drop in the sidewalk, and didn't realize they were stairs until I was basically off them.

I'd burn that cabinet, **** that ****! Props for your level headedness and pro spider demeanor.

Don't get me wrong, I ****ing HATE spiders. The widows do a good job of keeping the population of other creepy crawlies out of the house & garage so I do my best to coexist with them.

spiders eat the mosquitoes and flies that find their way into my house, they can hang.

but if that ****er has the potential to KILL me its getting wacked, casino style.

Washed my bike for the first time in a long while on my lunch break today.

I very much regret gold chain, and I'm just waiting for it to get worn enough to replace.
