about to go shopping, target, grocery store, and the liquor store. I anticipate spending a lot of money on booze, as I'm simultaneously out of:
red wine champagne whiskey - bourbon or rye. i have plenty of scotch vodka beer (i like to keep a 12 pack of IPA on hand for guests). Funny thing is that I brought back a head cold that moved into my chest from Yosemite, so it will be a few days to a week before I drink any of it. |
I rode fixed yesterday for the first time in ages and today my quads are killing me.
I also took ownership of this...still in the process of swapping parts, so I'll post more photos later. https://scontent.fphx1-2.fna.fbcdn.n...02283553_o.jpg |

Today I washed and waxed the car up and went for a drive. I quickly realized that even though this has been one of my dream cars since I was a kid and it is a blast to drive, I would almost rather be out riding and actually felt a bit guilty for not riding today.

Today my daughter and I went to the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Pretty cool place.

Do they charge a penny to get in? A penny. You see what I did there?

Today I put together my riding playlist. Long story short I went to Minnesota all summer and couldn't take my bike with me so I haven't ridden since June 20th. My first ride is gonna be my commute to school on Tuesday. I'm worried I might be a bit slow but I've been skateboarding all summer so I've been staying fit.

I just found out I reached the PTO cap at work, so it's time to use some vacation time. Was thinking maybe a road trip up to NorCal. Is everything still on fire?

Today I broke a spoke on a Mavic Ksyrium SL wheel.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/04ennd06ib...spoke.jpg?dl=1 The spoke was frozen in the nipple the mechanic at the LBS twisted it when I let him true it. I should be pissed but I'm not. He is a friend of mine and I knew he had never worked on these wheels before but I let him have a go at it anyway. I saw that the spoke was a little twisted and heard it making a plink sound when climbing during the last few rides. Was just a matter of time. The problem is that Mavic no longer sells spokes for this wheel. I found two at mavicparts.com and hope I can salvage it but the lifespan of this wheelset is coming to a close. On the plus side, looks like here is a set of Hed Ardennes in my future. Anyone want to buy a kayak? -Tim- |

this has happened to a lot of people, myself included. the main reason is that they're so damn tough, you never have to true them and break the corrosion forming! :) i actually just gave away a set of free Ksyrium SL's to a broke college cyclist a couple months ago. every single nipple/spoke is frozen, but they're still true as ever :) |

Mine were only out a little bit. Should have left well enough alone. Ah well, I haven't used my kayak in several years. I think it needs to be sold and replaced with the aformentioned Hed Ardennes Plus SL. |
Haha, ya. I told him that they were effectively totaled in that they couldn't be trued, but he should still get lots of use of out them.

-Tim- They're pretty cheap nowadays considering how popular and mass produced they were back in their prime. It definitely helps to let wd-40 or triflow to soak in before truing though. The common park tool mavic nipple wrench for it makes too much torque doesnt help either. |

The common park tool mavic nipple wrench for it makes too much torque doesnt help either. Good info re soaking. Thanks. People ruined the nipples by using a metal wrench instead of the plastic wrench. The frozen nipple just stripped. I've actually been looking on Craigslist. A guy has an Askium with cracked rim for $50 but I haven't seen any Ksyriums. |

Today I rode my geared bike. 54 miles, with 2000 feet elevation gain. It took me about 3 hrs. and 20 minutes, including the stupid-steep climb for the last 3/4 mile. (I went all the way down to my granny 34x28, and my legs were still screaming.)
I'm good and tired now, but it was a nice ride overall. |
I went OTB for the first time since childhood when my front wheel found a large rodent hole while riding a local CX course. Ow.
