today i saw the '17 1x9 crosscheck in person. that color...so, so good. it's different than their old "blark due". but i don't need another bike....
makes me strongly consider powdercoating my nature boy that color.

Today I ran over a thumbtack on the way to the grocery store, on the one day I didn't bother throwing my flat fixing kit into my bag. Luckily the tack was kind enough to stay lodged in the tire until I got home.

I thought the same thing. Then I got one, and a second one. Lost one to a guy I know, and I plan on taking that back shortly. There are some here that I have looked at, and thought to myself, that is just impossible for me. I don't know if guys are dropping in at the start line being towed by a car, but some of them here just won't happen for me.

I also found out that the app and a Strava enabled device will not always net you the same times. The app had me 2 seconds short of a KOM. Happened to be running both, and once I uploaded my ride from my Garmin, that changed to 1 second back. It's also nice that your phone battery doesn't get the waste when you can run your Garmin instead.

I'm not on Strava. Nothing against it, I'm just not interested. Same with Facebook. Although Facebook does seem to have increasing utility; there are times when it would be convenient for me to check logistical information on FB, but I don't have an account.

At training camp a few weekends ago we took several 'KOMs' on the way back from the Salton Sea to Borrego - although I hesitate to call it that because it was mostly flat. Also, it was 7 riders from the 1/2/3 team TTT'ing pretty hard, so that's probably cheating .

I was on Strava, then I grew to hate it, but now I am back because I see what it offers as far as mileage tracking, ride data etc. Sometimes it is nice to see where you compare to other local riders and sometimes it sucks when you see how far back you are on a segment.

I've been using WKO+ but its pretty crappy honestly. A few members of 'the 33' use Cycling Analytics and post some pictures of pretty graphs and metrics, I might try it out. Prob. not worth it if you're not a power user though.

As far as comparing myself to other riders I prefer to do that in races

ya Strava really is more than just about 'cat 6 racing' as I like to call it. It's a useful social media outlet too - having followers and what not. Letting your friends know what you're up to. even though some people are crazy about it I think it does a lot of good for the cycling community.

That's a thing for me too.

Polar and Strava calculate time and speed differently. Strava always has me slower and longer than Polar.

i got into strava strictly for data tracking, maps, and finding new places to ride, because i nerd out on that stuff.

i played the KOM game for a little while, till i discovered mountain bikes and realized that life is more fun when you dont give a **** about stats.

somewhere along the line i found out that its a fantastic tool to meet similarly minded people and make friends
since then i think ive made more friends that are into the same things as me (bikes, camping, cooking, running, spirituality, books, music, just about everything)

one of my best friends now i met like that, only because he rode the same segments and we would comment on each others rides and occasionally cross paths in person
he lives literally down the block from me, and i wouldve never even knew he was alive much less trek through the alien landscape of arizona together for 2 weeks...

theres dickheads everywhere and strava is no exception, but i do think theres some really good aspects about it

Yeah I don't really pay attention to segments. The aforementioned KOM happened randomly and on a cyclocross course. I like strava for tracking miles and elevation. It's nice to have little goals.

There is a segment where Strava says I am number 3. For all I know I could be KOM.

I used to make segments on MapMyRide and use them to better myself. But i switched to strava for tracking instead as I like the app better and the social medi aspect of it. however i stopped paying attention to segments because people make them everywhere. the majority of them overlap. and some are just there for the sake of it it seems. so, who cares.
I mostly just use strava for miles, pace, and route tracking.

Most of my rides here in Wyo have no segments on them at all. Sometimes I think about making some but that would ruin the purity, man.

I use Strava just to track mileage and performance not so much for the social media aspect other than to pool folks at work together so we can track eachother. We have a company group with folks all over the world. I don't track anyone else. I also found that VeloViewer gives me more of the data that I'm looking for.

Today I watched the Phinneas and Ferb episode with Greg LeMond.

today i'm preparing for my 100k gravel race tomorrow. it's just a "men's open" category and lance ****ing armstrong is registered. guess there goes my podium hopes.
i'll be doing it on the nature boy, so a podium really wasn't in my future anyway.

Just take some PEDs and you'll be fine.

I advise to keep your distance from the pack of fan boys that will try to follow him. I attended a ride out here several years ago that he announced and, good lord, people were riding like friggin idiots.
