I built my first first wheel a couple of weeks ago (3x using 36h Dura-Ace, TB14, 1.8/1.6/1.8 spokes), complete with overhauling the used hub and rolling and cutting the spokes myself. I mangled a few spokes during the rolling process and haven't been able to replace them yet, so I've only built the rear wheel so far. But despite that, and a few other mishaps during the build (spoke prep disaster, f***ing up the lacing, etc.), the wheel turned out great and rides like a dream:

My chainstays are super narrow, so I left a bit of length on the chain initially and installed the wheel almost all the way back in the track ends to give the tire some extra space between the chainstays in case the wheel lost its true. Today, I ditched the extra chain and slammed the wheel (as also shown in the picture above):

No room for error. I'm proud to report that after 200 miles, some pretty hard bumps, and no additional tuning, the wheel is still straight as can be--no visible side-to-side play, no rubbing, and I completed 20 miles today without incident.

Many thanks to this forum (and YouTube :innocent:) for providing loads of invaluable information on this topic and many others. I couldn't have done it without you. :D

:cry:This morning at 2:30 we woke up abruptly to a intense odor permeating throughout the whole house. Our guess is a skunk did some spraying underneath our house. Even brought the scent with me to the office.

Today I was supposed to go to Chicago to surprise my nephew. Turns out my brother in law just got diagnosed with a bad case of strep throat this morning. Well, at least I hadn't left yet. And to top it off, while going through the drive thru car wash, my front drivers side wheel took a nasty gash halfway through the wash. They have a sign up that says that they are not responsible for wheels. These wheels were absolutely flawless. Damnit.

Today I rode 27 miles on the fixed gear. Felt really good to be out there and pedaling. The wind had other plans for me but whatever.

I did my first ride home on my WI Freewheel and it felt odd not being fixed. I liked the coasting for some portions of the ride but I don't know if I can going to freewheel often but I plan on doing a little crossish riding tomorrow if my arse can get motivated and wanna try it free rather than my normal fixed.

Mumonkan 02-19-17 08:20 PM

I was outside all day in a kayak enjoying planet earth

On our way back the sun set and created fantastical psychedelic tie dye colors in the wake of our boats, the rest of the water was smooth as glass

Fantastic ****in day

TenSpeedV2 02-19-17 09:00 PM

Today I did just shy of 35 miles on the crabon road bike.
