Just got back from Big Bear, arrived Friday morning. Did a ****load of MTB, N shore, Cougar Crest, Hanna Flat, S shore Bike Park (Snow Summit) and Skyline. My Friday ride was like 5+ hrs with tons of climbing on both sides of the lake.
Drank beer and wine, ate tons of food and relaxed in a hot tub during the evenings. Went on a few evening walks in the hood surrounding our cabin b/c it was really nice out. Stoked! |

I know it's a PITA but after getting ticketed twice for that in college I stopped down it. In recent years I've been more involved with the community and I like to lead by example and follow the rules. It pisses me off when I see cyclists running signs. Y'all are making me look bad! No wonder drivers hate us so much :) |
It takes a good bit of energy to get rolling every two blocks. On this island, there's two busy one ways with lights every two blocks and all the paralell streets have alternating stop signs.People park cars and trailers on the one ways , not leaving room for two cars and a bike. Although I appriciate and understand the laws, I can't get anywhere in a reasonable amount of time stopping for vacant intersections. There are however, a couple o three roads with no stops ,lights or traffic. I was on the one with the least cars when I turned off and passed some stop signs.The problem is, its also a high crime area so I got under the thumb for doing dumb things in the wrong place. I will try and find a free wheeling route in the coming days. I'll most likely ride the alleys. At least alleys are fun not fast |
I think in Idaho they have a law that states that cyclists can treat stop signs like yield signs, and stop lights like stop signs. I'd def. be in favor of that, but in the interim it's just not winning us any battles in our quest to be cool with motorists.

I have a pair of Lakes that I really like a lot, but they use a boa ratchet, and they're not as well used as yours. |

Have you tried lace up bike shoes? I just looked at the Lake selection and I'm surprised to see a variety of lace ups.

No I haven't. I like that it offers more control points if you really want to "tune" the tightness, and it has a retro/throwback feel which is cool. I don't like how you can't adjust it on the fly though.

BOA is super nice. I have a pair of Shimangos XC-7 and I love them. I love that I can adjust my shoes while riding and I actually do it sometimes.

Another Boa lover here. I might even spring for dual Boa next time I get shoes.

Besides the Lakes, I also have a pair of Fizik shoes, also with single BOAs. They're a little better shoe overall, but not as comfortable as the Lakes. Lake bills their shoes as the best choice for riders with wide feet, and more comfortable even for average widths. I find this to be true. My feet are narrow-to-average, and I can wear them a lot longer without discomfort than I could my Fiziks or my old Velcro-strap Shimano.

I go with Lake simply because I don't really have a choice, not much to choose from for size 50 shoes.
