Today I drove by the wildfire kicking up on the outskirts of the city. I have ridden that canyon many times, can't believe it's up in flames.

is this so commonplace now that the news doesn't even cover it?

Is California On Fire?

I was wondering why the air was so chunky and I was collecting bits of ash on my jersey. Went out for a ride after the sun dipped, did 30 miles, did not feel totally awesome due to afforementioned chunky air. Got a sprint PR though.

hairnet 09-01-17 11:02 PM

I didnt know about until I saw it from the freeway. There are wildfires here every year though.

motrheadsroadie 09-01-17 11:18 PM

you can practically set your watch to when the verdugos catch fire.

GENESTARWIND 09-01-17 11:51 PM

I thought oregon was on fire

TimothyH 09-02-17 03:41 PM

Today I got stung on the tongue by a bee.

He flew into my recovery drink unbeknownst and I took a swig. I thought it was a chunk of undissolved powder until it hurt. Spit it out and I don't know who was more pissed, me or him.

Just one of those really small honey bees so it was little more than a nuisance.

That same thing happened to me when i was 10 but it was a dr pepper

JeremyLC 09-02-17 05:37 PM

Today I finally finished getting this online: Arlington Community Band Not bike related, but man am I glad to be done.

(I'm visible in the background photo, btw)

ThermionicScott 09-02-17 09:51 PM

It's been hazy here in Iowa, too. I think Canada is having a round of wildfires as well.

seau grateau 09-02-17 11:59 PM

Pretty sure I don't want to live in SoCal anymore.

Water most likely won't recede for weeks.
I just put new tires on my commuter, too. Argh.

>>> these are minimalist times where i am too !!! today i rode to the Neches river basin ... incredible how high the h2o is ... h20 system down & all roads out compromised :twitchy:

today i put on the ultegra 6700 shifters and rear der from the (used) drivetrain i was gifted last week onto my space horse. had a set of 44cm cowbells in the parts bin too, so on those went. the bike is approx 28.4% faster now than with the bullmoose bars.

UltraManDan 09-04-17 04:27 PM

Today I picked up a new Surly 17T cog from the LBS. Mine was seriously shark toothin it and I supposed this was the cause of a drivetrain creak, but after swapping it I still had it. After inspection I realized that 4 out of 5 chainring bolts were loose. :/ So back up to the LBS I went and got them tightened down. Now it is nice and quiet!! And I put a chainring locknut tool on order.

Raced today after not riding all week, felt good first half of the race and then a bunch of people crashed with 5 to go so they stopped the race to get them off the course. Restarted us with 6 to go and I completely lost all my rhythm from sitting at the start/finish for like 10 min mid race.

I was positioned in the first 20 or so riders after I saw 15 to go, and I was feelin pretty confident too.
Final result 30/76 so I'm pretty bummed about that. One more race for road season and then I'm gonna try my hand at cross and then start prepping for next season.

Hate having to restart like that! Bummer about your placing. Are you trying to earn 4 -> 3 upgrade points?

"Recovering" from moving this weekend. Always such a pita but during the process the family cat ran away which is really ****ty. Its been 5 days now and no sight of him despite hundreds of flyers plastered around the neighborhood and calls placed to every shelter/clinic that we can find.

Trying to stay positive but its hard:(

In other news, I had to move with 6 bikes which was annoying. I want to sell most of them and get one slick one -- Thinking about a Flaanimal..

*thinking: What's a "Flaanimal"?...*
*Goes to Google...*
*thinking: Preety.... only $700 for the frameset?...*

No! I do NOT need another bike! Those look fun, though.

Careful...

The $700 frames are manufacturer defects, heavily discounted because the tubes were not correct. They are heavier and stiffer than the bikes made to spec.It isn't right that they don't make this perfectly clear on the website. Not trying to take away anything from the bike but calling it an "Adopt a Flaanimal" sale and not being up front with customers leaves a bad VW Golf Diesel taste in my mouth.

I just finished putting together my Ride with GPS report for the Maine Farm to fork Fondo
https://ridewithgps.com/ride_reports...rk-fondo-maine
It was an 87 mike ride with +5000' of climbing. I was the only fixed gear :-) I had a great time. Many of the roads were just paved so it was smooth sailing. I kicked a lot of geared bike butt on the hills and was rewarded with lobster at the end. It was a fantastic ride.

Ride Safe,
Joe

Sign me up!

Man, that looks like a good time, and the food, and a great average speed, and the cool jersey and bike...

The ride report page is nice too. All win.
