thanks man. started the ride a little early and planned on the lead group catching up within an hour to so since i was alone...they ended up catching me around the 65mile mark after i'd maintained a 22+mph average my myself...needless to say i was already spent when they caught me. tried to sit in and made it less than 2 miles
before i was spit out the back. back on my own after that for the other 30 miles. they had such a huge gap on the other riders that i never got to ride with another group. on one hand, its great that i was faster than i'd planned but on the other a solo century is boring af.

Riding is never boring

you don't ride enough.

I get bored after a few hrs on solo rides as well. Sometimes I dread the ride plans I make for myself, but it feels good afterward.

this route (that i do once a year) was through the mid-west texas desert with practically no elevation with pump jacks screeching in the fields. i was bored 10mins in!

TMonk 08-26-17 07:40 PM

gotta make do I suppose

TMonk 08-26-17 08:00 PM

Went on a ~30 min through my (new) neighborhood. Man, it's nice around here! Wide streets, well kept places, smiling people. Even ran into a couple diff cycling friends/couples on my route. Best part: my knee is feeling a lot better, I'm no longer worried about it. I think I'll be able to resume business as usual.

Up next: fancy dinner date with my gf. This time its her idea and her treat

Sounds like southern Ohio.

Today I put on a jersey that I wore back in my mountain bike days. Last year I tried it on, and it was so tight that I wouldn't ever wear it because it looked terrible. So after putting that jersey on today, I got on my bike and rode to work with it on, flapping in the wind because it was too big. :)

Any demolition derbies in your area? Sounds like great fun ;)

Haha. It turns out that not only was the alternator bad, the battery was on its way out, too. When idling, the system voltage was now a healthy 14V, but the battery was low enough the next day that it wouldn't start! Luckily, my folks also have a VW from the same era, and Dad just happened to have a newer battery that he bought when theirs had an issue. Here's hoping that the car stays fixed for at least a little while! ;)

Today I biked 7.5 miles at night and it was by far the best bike ride in a long time. something about riding at night... you know?

Not southern enough. Once you get near the river it gets really interesting.

I'm with johnnytheboy. Solo century is not much fun. Especially if you're grinding the whole time.

Over the weekend I had the hard decision of trading one Cross team for another. Who knew local amateur racing could be so involved.

Unkle Rico 08-28-17 04:16 PM

Today i packed up my bikes and rented a Uhaul for this friday. Moving blows.

TMonk 08-28-17 09:16 PM

Where to? Another place is Denver?

UltraManDan 08-29-17 08:35 AM

Today (well last night) I did this, and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

Unkle Rico 08-29-17 10:09 AM

Nah, been in Denver for almost 2 years. Just moving to an apartment for financial reasons :crash:

Went on a really nice ride through some rolling hills and countryside and then went back to a friends house and they have not only a pool but a brand new hot tub which means post ride was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also the day before got to hang out a vintage record shop and got the Mountain Goats: Beautiful Rat Sunset 10inch, Two old Pansy Division 7inchers and a ton of LPs from Doonsbury the Musical to Rush: Exit Stage Left to John McLaughlin: Shakti and some other random stuff. My friend picked up an original Crass: Christ - The Album which was awesome. We also got to check out a neat bike shop with the new Merz Specialized Sequoia since we couldn't ride because of the weather (or we could have but didn't want to be cold and wet)

All in all a fun couple of days.
