stayed up way too late playing with this thing. Fun to tinker with. Found a rear fender for it today. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...1fa752f85.jpeg |
I'm convincing myself I don't need Paul cantilevers for my CX bike.
|
Today I took a quick ride after 4 weeks of inactivity due to cold and snow only to find a broken spoke on my rear wheel. Ugh.
|
Today I'm entertaining this silly idea:
Steamroller Disc Trucker fork 650b wheels Big ol' tires Fixed gear ??? |

Does anybody do any research into or pay any attention to fork specs nowadays before considering doing any swapping? Not referring to you specifically, even though the dimensions of both Disc Trucker and Steamroller forks are readily available so you can compare and calculate for yourself yada-yada...

I bought my Pake last year with a fork that was waaaay taller than the original. I didn't die when I rode on it, but I did swap it for something appropriate. |

Took the Tri-rail down to Miami to go to a bike shop called Bike Nerds... https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b6c3ee115b.jpg Bought this Dura-Ace cog... Then rode to around and stopped at starbucks 'cause I was very thirsty and got a refresher and charged up... https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...dce1232880.jpg Took this photo in Wynwood... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d59acbcd2b.jpg Stopped to get this photo taken across from Panther Coffee where I got an espresso... https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...636fe2d6e0.jpg Took the Tri-rail home. |

Got pulled over on my way home for lack of a headlight, but the officer who stopped me was chill, and quickly understood I had forgotten it at home. Ended up talking about American traditional style tattoos, then I assume he called in a buddy because second officer who showed up was super into track bikes. These are the bars I wrapped in Liz skins... not fond. Gonna try something else... What an odd night. |

Today I'm thinking of changing careers.
I'd like to quit supporting enterprise computer systems for large corporate customer and convert my home to a meth lab. The customer's would be easier to deal with. -Tim- |
Ha!
I work at a chemistry (nanotechnology) company and manage the Characterization Service department and interface directly with customers who want their samples analyzed by Electron Microscopy (TEM). Mass Spec. (ICP-MS) and other techniques. Fortunately my customers typically already know what they're dealing with and what they need. Leads to some interesting studies and solid relationships across varied industries. Our Sales Team supporting our product sales (much higher revenue) - now that's a different story. Some of their customer inquiries range from ignorant/stupid to just plain bizarre... I'm definitely happy I don't have that job haha - sticking to Analytical Chemistry. Takes some patience! |
Commute to and from work today (~10 mi each way), then madison workout at the track tonight! First time out there in 6 months and I'm stoked to be back on the track for some hand-holding and fast pedaling. Plus the weather is great - it's been rainy in SD!

Tonight I'm cooking dinner on a titanium camp stove and sleeping in my backyard in a tent.

Stay safe in the wilderness! |
Gotta make sure to get those pilot runs in. I make a point of going backpacking a couple times/year in late summer. You don't want to end up high in the mountains and learn that your tent is ripped or your stove don't work. Or that you forgot your whisky!
|
also jealous of your trip TimothyH. Never been to Co and those high-altitude Rockies meadows look just fantastic. In Ca we have the Sierra Nevadas which at points are truly Alpine with awesome faces of rock and ice.

Came inside for chips and salsa :)
And to check the Thursday night bikeforums action. So far my bike pants rip on every single ride and I'm running out of options is the highlight. -Tim- |
Taking it easy on the bike this week. Racing Sunday so I'll be back at it a day early.
Jogged for 20 min last night (sore AF currently), mellow MTB ride into work. Looking forward to some "urban assault" on the way home early this evening in some glorious San Diego spring weather! Some hoodlums built a pump track into a dirt/grass lot in front of a Fry's electronics, and there are a few pretty sweet big embankments on the way back that are just a bunny-hop and wall ride away from the bike lane. Stoked. |
Today I'm in my office enjoying the smell of brand new Panaracer Gravelking SK tires.
They are made of natural rubber and smell so good. -Tim- |
^ I've loved the smell of new tires since I was a kid. Bike, car, truck, wheelbarrow, anything.
