Got my new toe clips in the mail, but forgot that the way GR 9s are made makes for a goofy interface when paired with plastic clips. Probably going to switch back to Sylvans or somesuch.

Today I started fabricating a front rack. I got the bottom eyelet mount brackets made and the front arms cut and bent to shape. Forgot to take any pics, but I will tomorrow as I make more progress. I’m pulling inspiration from the Cetma Cargo half rack but went with aluminum vs stainless. I also want to incorporate finer details in areas such as mounting brackets and use sweeping bends vs all straight tubing. I think a slightly taller back stop will be useful. I’ll also be adding eyelets for straps and bungees, and want to use local mesquite between the aluminum on the actual rack part. I have some very nice beryl mesquite limbs that I will cut into planks to use. The welds on the Cetma racks look quite cheesy and my tig welds should come out much nicer!

This is the rack I’m using for reference:

edit: adding full race reports as I didn't have much to say anywho:

Uneventful Sunday of racing at CBR yesterday. I didn't really want to go but the race director convinced me to.

cat 3/4: DNF/100

With a full field and many strong 3's and even more excitable 4's, I wasn't too enthusiastic lining up for this one. I decided that I did not want to deal with the race and so I would ride it on/off the front or tail gun the rear. After a few failed attacks and 15 min to go I resigned myself to tail gunning. The RD was acting funny the whole time and got worse so I didn't finish the last lap. A few turns of the barrel adjuster fixed that one.

Masters 30+ 3/4: 3rd/50-something

Some teammates set me up nicely with early attacks and helped keep me near (but not on) the front. I countered 10 min in and spent the next 20 min OTF solo, up 30 seconds for the middle of it. I turned around kept wishing to see a small group of riders chasing that I could win from, but it never happened. Field got me with 10' to go (lap cards) and I just stayed near the front and got 3rd in the sprint. There were 22 cat 3's who started so at least it was good for a whopping 3 points, so I'm at 24 now. Also when I was OTF I swept up a few primes, $50, a coffee mug, free race entry to another CBR and some overall points for the series.

Today I rode fixed up a hill. Was told by a driver to downshift. LOL.

 I'd probly yell back something smart ass like, "oh yeah! I always forget"

Finally got some mail yesterday! Stem and seat post came. Threw them on today.
They're both so weird looking and I dig it. This beater has been getting all the attention and ride time lately. I've never built a conversion before, been a lot of fun. Gonna give the fixed gear some seat time this weekend for sure though.
Next purchase is a high quality ss freewheel. Mine sucks

man that post is really something.

Took the day off work so I could ride, ended up with 108 miles, 5,500' elevation and 4,000 kj, which is roughly equivalent to calories burned. Up next: food. some sedentary chores, then music night,

Ludicrous mode, you’re a maniac, as always.

Its really something... it’s so anti, but I like it for that. It’s an older design, that Cane Creek is still using... actually works pretty well, even more appeal. I like weird ****

I’ve been searching for a stingray, krate, or any muscle bike project for about 6 months. Today I found the perfect local doner for my next build at an awsome price. I’m picking it up tomorrow at lunch. It’s not an original, but one of the limited edition repro’s from the last few decades. Which is perfect because I want to get wild with it. Lots of custom stuff with as many NOS odds and ends I can get my greasy hands on. The 60’s-70’s is my favorite era for nearly everything. I can’t express how excited I am for this.

Today I rode 27 mi at 17.7mph average. It it my fastest time ever! Also saw a lady riding a unicycle with a huge wheel down the path. Don't see that everyday!

Today I rode much more slowly than that. Was a really nice canal ride out to the reservation, though. Thinking about getting a 6-bolt fixed cog for this thing...

Yesterday I went out for a century ride, planning to start solo then pick up a couple high school buddies at the halfway point. Rode the first half in three hours, decent time. Met up for the second half, continuing at a "weekend family ride" pace.

Four hours later, twelve miles from the finish, one dude is completely bonked. I hang back and try to talk him through to the end. Meanwhile the third dude pushes ahead to get home and bring out the truck if necessary. Ten miles from the end it's almost dark, there's a brewpub, and I can't talk my buddy out of quitting. We get off the bikes, sit down for a beer and wait for the truck to come get us.

O man, 10 miles seems like nothing after 90. Sometimes when you're done, you're done, I guess. My latest century bail is 65 miles or so. I figured Hey, I got a metric done...

I remember one where I was just dying from mile 70-85, then the last 15 were easy.

Nice ride jlafitte

I was awfully hungover this morning, but for a good reason: I drank delicious red wines all day yesterday in Valle de Guadalupe, Mex. for my fiancee's birthday with a big group. We had a van drive us to and from the border and between four different wineries for some awesome food, drink and lounging. The forecast was grim, but it was light drizzle at worst and did not stop us from enjoying some of the exquisite grounds and greenery to be had in El Valle. I loved it and will definitely be coming back at least a couple of times per year! It was Napa valley level awesome IMO. We brought home a couple bottles and some of those wines were just delicious.

Just got off the MTB for an hour and although my body is still dragging a bit, my legs just felt great and wanted to be squeezed. Next week will see some more MTB tomorrow, then an endurance ride on the fixed-gear and threshold intervals over T/W, Thursday off and then some openers on the race bike Friday before Tour de Murrieta this weekend. Good stuff. At TdM the field is cat 2/3 combined, so I plan on racing aggressively in support of some of my good friends on the cat 2 team. If there is a window for me to get points I'll do it (still need 6), but it won't be my primary objective, which should be a nice change of pace mentally.

Yesterday I was at the start line for a gravel race and bonsai171 texts, "What's up? You riding today?"

It was CicLAvia today and the co-op had a free repair booth set up at one of the stops. Naturally we transported everything with the shop's Surly trailers.

And after my shift I towed my friend around for 12 miles since she can't ride due to an injury.

Pretty good day overall and I just realized how freaking small my bike looks underneath me. wtf
