Bikes: N+1

Today I finished rebuilding my Surly into this apoclypse bike. Deciding to give this bike one more shot before putting it up for sale. It's super fun tho with the 2" Big Ben tires, mtb cockpit, and meat tenderize pedals.

Taking down Mt. Lowe soon. It will be a fine day day

Today I swapped saddles. Took the Arione off my Big Block and switched back to my trusty WTB Silverado. It's weird but I can't find a saddle I like more than this cheap one that I randomly bought at a Performance store years ago.

Nice bike there, I happened to need a replacement and that frame is all Spesh had left and after owning it a bit I am not complaining, that color scheme has grown on me. Though don't like their cable guides I get that these can come off and that is great for the track crowd but I like brakes. So the old frame with welded tabs was better for me but hey it was a warranty on a 11 year old frame that cracked so can't be too picky.

It is the PDW Floyd's of Leadville edition so not quite world champ stripes but heavily inspired by them. Technically I am not a UCI recognized world champion as enjoying cake while looking at bikes is not yet a UCI event.

I did buy extras if you are interested in one, just PM me and we can work something out!

Nice, I have various PDW cages from Owls, to Birds, to Sparrows and the Cat and Dog ones as well. I am curious to see what the next animal cage they will do? They hold onto bottles really well and look quite nice.

Started 2020 off with a course record in the Men's 20k TTT at the Fiesta Island Time Trial (FITT) series. The four of us rode a 24:56 20k. To put that result into perspective, the course record for the Men's 20k ITT is only 24:07 ... but that was set in warmer temperatures by a pro (Sam Boardman).

We had zero practice (a mid week session fell through), one of our four was brand new to riding with us and TTT and the island had all sorts of dried mud from the recent rains that sapped speed, and it was cold, and..... Excuses, I know. Our ride was pretty janky/could be smoothed out a lot. In april we will be going for the 40k TTT which is 48:51... yeah we have our work cut out for us.

The ride was good for ~25 minutes of ~29.5 MPH. I spent the first two and a half (of three) scared that I was going to get dropped, then the last half lap hurting a lot... But I think that's a bout right, as far as effort distribution goes. Looking fwd to more ITT and TTT work in 2020!

Our squad looking fly in the 2019 SCNCA skinsuits - I'm the shorter of the two on the top step

Today we finally got a break from 2 straight weeks of rain. Went to get on the fixed gear at lunch, and my back tire was flat :-p

Got the tube out and found the hole-the valve separated from the tube. Got a new dura ace lockring on though. Now I can finally ride fixed-fixed.

Today I'm sore. Well, my quads mostly. I rode Sunday for the first time in a while because the weather was so nice. It got up to 50 F and was sunny! I forgot what the sun looked like. Anyway, I rode my fixed-gear conversion, a Miyata 312, one of my favorites of all time. I did some hill repeats for fun and that is what did it.

I don't mind the soreness, it just proves I'm not riding enough. The ride reminded me what I've been missing.

Today I rode my road bike in shorts. Sunny spring day in the middle of February. This used to be the cold month around here.

Think I may have finally borked my GXP bottom bracket. It's started making a funny noise under high torque...

Today Sheldon Brown helped me once again in the least expected of ways for something completely non-cycling related.

Wasn't sure about the compatibility for the following pricey-rare lens:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Contax-Carl...gAAOSwn~JeT~ck

I google up the combination of my camera + that lens and this result from a familiar domain was a top hit and clicking it gave me an instant answer in 1-photo (yes, it will work):
https://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/cameras/nikon-sp.html

Absolute legend.

Today I put together my girlfriend's bike. We found a Windsor Essex that seemed like the right size on Bike Island. It was discounted because the rear fender is banged up and bent, but I think it should be fixable. Just took it off for the time being, and we're gonna go for a spin tomorrow.

And today we went for our first ride together. Took a little spin around the trails at a local park, fun times.

Today I switched to summer gearing and replaced the chain on my FG. It's a NOS SRAM PC-7X that I found a while back and pounced on.

I didn't realize when buying that it wasn't silver, but I'm not mad either.

Today-ish I finally put clips and straps back on my bike. Took waaaaaay too long for me to arrive at this, and the photo looks like it was taken with a rotten potato, but still I rejoice. Hopping on the bike whenever I want is now effortless again, and I no longer have to deal with big platform pedals and bull**** velcro straps.

"You're gonna love my nuts" Vince from Slap Chop. Never thought I would see that informerical again without searching for it on purpose and while watching some YouTubes. Fredaccini is so delicious and I missed it so much. I think I am losing my grasp on reality. I literally took the time to write this not because anything really exciting happened it was an old commercial. HELP ME!!!!
