Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? I know this is going to sound Dickish, but look around. There's more than enough info already here for you to figure out on your own what you need. Show some effort.

I don't think there are too many people willing to offer help to someone who can't find the motivation to at least fake an effort at researching their own solution. We're not here to be personal shoppers and were not here to talk you through something from stem to stern.

Step one: Get a wheel with a fixed gear cog
Step two: take off original wheel and derailleur
Step three: Put the friggin wheel on
Step four: put chain on
Assuming you have the right crankset you're done.

I agree with IthaDan here, couldn't you have just searched for five minutes. Just yesterday I searched for 45 minutes-2 hours for the right magic gear for my bike.

Not so fast there, mate. What about chain tensioning? Depending on the drop outs, the OP may need to get something like the Surly Singulator.

Judging by the fact that the bike is a ten speed, it's probably a little old and has horizontal drop outs.

but yah, Step five: place the axle in the dropout at a correct position to achieve correct tension in the chain.

Fine,
Step six: Shorten the chain using a chain tool, then reassemble with masterlink

Shouldn't you mount the tube and tire on the rim before you pump it up.

Shouldn't you install a rim strip on the wheel before you mount the tube and tire ?

Shouldn't you remove the locknuts from your presta valves before you mount the tube?

Only if they came with them. How about removing the valve caps and unscrewing the valve core nuts before inflating the tubes.

How about lacing the rim hoop and hub together with spokes before you mount the tire.

You'll spend just a little more buying a fixie than converting a bike. Also, people, cut the guy some slack, he just joined bike forums this month.

From: West Chester PA,

Bikes: a couple schwinns

I used a cut up dollar bill and some rubber cement as a tire patch when I was in a pinch once. It worked well.
