Odd that just the fork would be on back order… Anyway, how does the geometry of the two forks compare? (rake, axle-to-crown height, that sort of thing)

Great build - I like all of it including the State frame. Obviously there are more expensive frames available, but I think your approach is also logical.

The main reason I went with State is because they are local to me. When I had been looking for a new bike to buy or build I had kept seeing this frame. I kept calling and emailing.. it was never available so I decided it was finally time to just bite the bullet and get it ordered.

I looked at UNKNOWN, LEADER, CINELLI and BIANCHI as well.. but without having one here that I could touch, sit on, ride, size, etc was really the main factor in making my choice.

They have been super helpful and gone above and beyond on this bike as well as my regular run of the mill State bike I have too.

The Undefeated fork is 15º less than the fork that I chose as well at 45grams lighter.. I will swap it out when it is available.

For those asking about price..

$2800 ish

There are no Cinelli or Bianchi dealers in the Phoenix area? Not trying to say you bought the wrong frame but I find that hard to believe, plus I wouldn't ride a state bike down near Tempe, I hear it's like 95% state bikes rolling around.

For some perspective, the complete bike costs $950 with Omniums.

Ill be curious to see what this weighs in at when you get it. Also let me know what you think about those wheels. I love the way they look but as a bigger dude I feel like I would crush them. The only thing I wouldnt have done is buy a fork just to replace it in a month.

There is a Bianchi dealer 1 mile from the house.. cash up front and no refunds on a frame I dont know if I will like it or not kind of scares me away.

The only Cinelli dealer is 100+ miles away and they do not have frames on the floor either, so its like if I am going to order something, I might as well order what I know fits me and I can touch and see.

I love the look of the wheels.. Luckily I am 138# right now, so I hope I dont break them like I have read others have.

I am really that impatient of an individual. I am sure someone will need a carbon fork.. and maybe by the time all my FSA stuff and wheels come in the forks will be ready too?

I guess I do understand that. On some of my vintage road bikes I have installed a single new part and then built a bike up 100% with parts bin parts. I do this knowing that the very next day I have another part coming in and will most likely have to redo everything I just did. I wasnt trying to hate. Cant wait to see your bike built.

When its in and done I will weigh it and post it up. I am hoping its light.

My current state frame (4130) weights 9 lbs... the undefeated weights under 4.. thats 5 lbs right there. all the carbon parts and should keep it super light as well.

Also I should note when I do buy 1 item from a company and have a good experience I am usually very loyal on the next thing I buy.
Cars, trucks, shoes, clothes, cameras, computers, TVs, bikes, aftermarket **** for my cars and trucks, etc.

I can think of on numerous occasions that I could have saved a few bucks by buying else where or something a little different, but I didnt. i stayed the company I felt comfortable with, had a working relationship with and was happy with my choice.

If I spent every day of my life only buying the best priced items or waiting for the best deal, I wouldnt have anything to play with. Are their more expensive frames out there.. YUP.. are their cheaper frames out there.. YUP.. are the cheaper or better components out there.. YUP and YUP.. did I buy those ones.. NOPE.. did I build your exact Surly X bike.. nope, why because I dont like it.

We all have opinions.. I look to others to see if I am doing something wrong when it comes to building up any project.. car, truck, sound system, home entertainment system. I do what I do for a living and I know that up down and all around, so when it comes to things I dont know that much about I come to forums to see if my choice was wrong.

I have built and sold numerous cars and trucks with more money in aftermarket then the stock vehicle was and a lot of the decision making was based off information and talking to people on the forums.

A lot of people thought I was stupid for dumping $20k into a Subaru STi, but I was happy with it, and at the end of the day.. my happiness is all that matters.

There is absolutely no way this can be true. A 55cm Pake Rum Runner (straight gauge 4130 cro-mo) frame weighs 4 lbs, 15 oz.
