I'm sure it was fun building it. And as long as it's safe, I'm happy for you.

I'm with you Renaissance_man. Sometimes the build is the important part and I think you've done a good thing in rescuing a Thruster from a life of drudgery.
You commented earlier that the gold isn't as intrusive in real life. I can identify with that. My blue bike with its blue wheels looks dreadful in photos but is nice in real life. I guess this is why real photographers still get paid for their work.

Also run at least a front brake, especially for a beginner who's:

I'm learning how to do skids at the moment. Not trying too hard because I'm not well, but the lad and I went for a light roll yesterday. Feeling cheeky, I tried a skid and got short, satisfying chirp at the back. Confidence abounding, I had another go, which didn't lock the wheel but did fire me straight off the path towards a tree with the bike all out of shape underneath me. Most entertaining and after I got it back under control, the best bit was the look on my son's face
Yeah mate, fit a brake. You don't have to use it but by cripes they're handy if you want to stop NOW!

I found this out after riding it for the first time today. They're better than nothing but I need to swap them out soon. I actually started a thread about this so I can get some input on a good setup.

I would say Renaissance_man has passed initiation. Many lesser men ran off to hide never to be heard from again after much less then this guy has taken.
While I don't agree with the choice in frame set, I do understand the build and I also understand that this is a fancy looking $300 beater that can be locked up and you don't have to be too upset when it eventually gets stolen

Bikes: ones with two wheels
my room mate did essentially the same. but he went with higher quality parts then got an aluminum frame and just switched everything over.
id recommend riding with a brake, unless you are riding on the track i think its foolish to ride w/o brakes.
personally i would be shooting higher than state if i was gonna model my bike after something
