i don't know either. might as well strip the whole thing. the clearcoat is only there to keep the decals on.

i see, so the clearcoat doesnt protect the frame? is it bad for my bike to have no clear coat on it?? if i use the jasco and dont reapply clearcoat what are the consequences?

I haven't seen much in the way of pitting or rusting and I didn't clear coat. Although it has seen just Cally street dust, and Minnesota rainwater. If I lived near the ocean I'd be concerned about the salt pitting the faux chrome finish.
yeah i am in california, i guess i'll probalby end up clear coating, the krylon brand clear coat that stickerguy used the best one to use? i mean id prefer the shiny glossy look of the chrome but if it will eventually get worn down without clear coat id rather just protect it.
any suggestions? |
Doing it right now! AHH! It's going slow, I got something like JASCO, unfortunately it isn't as strong so A LOT of coats are required. And i wanted to do the entire frame because the Bianchi clear coat is so murky... it looks better when you do your own.
Will post pics when I finish tonight. |
Hey,
Why did you decide to clear coat the chrome on your pista? Do you know what will remove stickers without hurting a powder coated frame? If you have not upgraded yet, I would recommend the "Pake" frames from merry sales. |

Sweet ride.... pinstripes across the toptube leap to mind. $.02

does this work with 06 gangreen? sorry if its a stupid Q
course not. it's green paint, so paint stripper will strip it
You'll strip the powdercoat. So no.

This thread is a hundred years old.
Yeah, but the man needed answers!
I know the thread has been dead for at least 3 months, but I thought I would share my results the process. Worked like a charm! I didn't use the goo gone, but instead steal wool with soap and the residual **** came off without much hassle. I have yet to apply any clearcoat, but I got to say, my pista is looking sweet.
so what is the bottom line- pittsburgh----yucky winters--- to clearcoat or not to clearcoat
the clear coat would not be doing much, if you take it off it will be shinier and look less scratched up
Why has the first post been removed? Can someone recount the steps enumerated in the original post?
Slather your bike in paint remover. I used Jasco. Let it sit until the clearcoat gets all crystally/bubbly. Scrape it off. I used a credit card. When it gets on your hands, watch with amazement as your skin turns red and starts to burn from the inside out. Repeat.

How does it look with the stays still clearcoated, vonzip? What made you mask them off?
the rear stays are clean of logos. so, ease of maintenance as in "it's never as much fun to polish the back as it is the front"
the clear coat is so thin that if you tape at the weld joints you can't see any variation http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/IMG_3595.jpg |
why did the OP delete all his posts?
I'm in love with these stripped chrome bicycles. Does anybody besides Bianchi make affordable chrome frames? The plainer, the better. Thanks.
