Deciding on new bike!
Hi guys,
I recently bought a 2013 Bianchi Super Pista with a bunch of track parts on it. I want to ride it to school but it is too flashy that I have to bring it to class with me. So now I am considering to buy a Wabi. I am parting out the Pista to buy the Wabi...because of aesthetics and similar weight. I weighed the pista and it was 18 lbs exact. The wabi weighs 18.4 lbs. My ideal bike isn't much...I love the super pista, but I don't like the paranoid feeling of it being stolen. So, I am deciding to buy the Wabi classic for $840 shipped if I sell my 2010 Mavic wheelset and Sugino 75 Grand Mighty's for $550. With that, I still have the Super Pista frame and other parts to sell.
So, should I do it? Or keep Super Pista and plastic-dip the bianchi?
The bike is mainly for daily commuting to school (UC Davis).
Here are the list of parts on the Super Pista:
-Profile's T2 Wing base bar
-Speedplay Zero Titanium pedals - yellow
-Tange Seiki Techno-Glide - Classic Headset
-2013 Bianchi Super Pista - white
-Sugino 75 GRAND MIGHTY Crankset - 165mm
-2010 Mavic Ellipse wheel sets
-Continental Ultra Gatorskin tires on both Mavics
-Fizik Aliante Delta seats - celeste
-Shimano 105 front brake only
-Tektro AL 721 brake lever
-Miche Super Type seatpost
-Torelli Bormio stem - white
-Sugino 75 48T SSG 144

my best advice would be to never leave it overnight. thats when stuff gets taken/damaged. if i were you, i would keep the pista, buy a good u lock and sturdy cable for the frame and wheels. also buy another little cable to lock up the saddle, if you're paranoid about that.
you have a pretty sweet setup. i would keep it and maybe get a serious beater bike for pub runs and such.
also, acting like you spent 2600 on a bike you spent 800 on is kind of a d*ck move ("my loss your gain")
1700 seems steep

but best of luck

the Wabi is a really nice bike. Bike thieves will know that. I think it would be just as attractive to steal as the Bianchi.
If your really concerned, buy a Kilo TT or something cheaper like The Hour from Bikesdirect or a beater off of craigslist

This too. You can buy a complete for $999:

Maybe not as nice a build as yours but as a potential buyer I would rather just get everything brand new (never really know the story behind a used bike) and then upgrade as I go. If you can get back what you spent consider yourself lucky

i am at uc davis as well. i am usually comfortable locking up my commuter(s) outside during the day.

You are right. The market will dictate the price and people shopping for a Super Pista will know exactly what it is worth so expect to get low balled

I considered Kilo TT, but most of the Kilo TT priced on craigslist is overpriced for a stock setup.

Why not build up one of those other frames, that are in the background of your CL pics, and use that?

So you want to sell a bike you bought for $800 because you don't want it to get stolen, then lock up a bike that costs you $840? That doesn't really seem like the best solution to your problem.

True, but the Wabi seems just like any other bike around on campus (without a big Bianchi logo) such as Fuji Feather, Kilo TT, Fuji Classic, Fuji Track, and other vintage bikes, etc

I never consider buying new bikes. I usually buy used bikes that I can either profit or even out. If it is unethical to sell a bike higher than what I paid, then car dealerships are robbing people. What I am doing is still better than those people who literally steal bikes to resell...
For the Wabi, it is a different case because I want to be stupid.

Lock the damn thing up or just buy a cheapo bike to commute. Lock your bike up next to a bike that isn't locked up well, they will always choose the easier option to steal if they are really that determined.

^this. i have seen very nice bikes locked up around campus. just be smart about how and where you lock your bike up. and i promise not to steal your bike if i see it around.

Haha okay. So, do you guys lock the frame/front wheel, or frame/rear wheel. I have a cable, but it is back at home at the moment.

When I have to lock my bike I pop off the front wheel and u-lock the frame and both wheels. if I can't do that, I u-lock the frame and rear wheel, then run a cable through the front.
(otherwise, I'm spoiled - I have my own office, so I just park behind my desk
)

I lock up my front and frame to the rack. If it is for more than a couple hours, i run a cable through the rear wheel, and sometimes a thinner cable through the saddle rails. i am also spoiled, though and usually keep my bike in my office, when my boss doesn't mind.

IF you are riding to the same spot to lock up all the time I would recommend leaving two u-locks there . Put one through the rack-rear tire-frame, put the other on the front wheel around the downward front tube.
