Actually...Masi in the US is owned by Haro ;) but Alberto Masi does still make hand-made steel frames in Milan, IT |
Yep. It's like trying to compare a Cinelli Gazzetta to a SuperCorsa. The Supercorsa is probably 5% (or less) of their steel frame track bike frame sales. A majority of their bikes are made in China (Gazzetta, "Work model", etc...)

I don't know much about these bikes (or love them, for that matter), but this one looks pretty cool. Attractive price, if I'm not mistaken...

Agreed. My blanket statement is only 99.9% correct. Exactly how many handmade Masis have you seen on CL/eBay ? Are you suggesting that the Masi shown in post 1015 above is anything other than low quality Asia stuff ? Oh, and btw just to nitpick, it's Alberto Masi's son, not the original Alberto Masi who is building frames now, although he may be just as competent as his father.
And not to nitpick...but it was Faliero who founded and grew Masi - Alberto is his son and for decades his workshop has been and in fact still is hand-building Italian Masis. But we seem to be forgetting that during much of Masi's "good times" they were actually made in California, where some of the best American custom frame-builders got their starts, and where the family lost use of their name in the US...

Ah, but the bike in question is most decidedly not one of their higher end models:
Maybe you guys should to go back to shilling all those suh-weet Aventons & Kilos ;) |
That MASI for 250 is a decent price. Modern MASI has some good offerings. The Coltello was a great frame not sure if it is still available or not.

Starting to smell like 33 in here.

$400 for the landshark doesn't seem like a bad deal.
|
there was a beat up landshark track at the jumble last year, they wanted 400 for just the frame

Low-end Falcon Merckx I believe, but I think it'd make a solid basis for a townie build.
Not sure if Leukybear is interested -- believe this is in his neck of the woods. http://images.craigslist.org/00J0J_g...r7_600x450.jpg Eddy Merckx easy rider |

It's a pretty rad frame/fork. Too bad about the components, though.
|
I have Klein love so that Colnago doesn't make me flinch. I saw the paint job and expected an early 90's Klein Rascal...not a Colnago.
|
Kleins have better paintjobs.

At the end of the day, you're still paying $800+shipping from japan for a frameset that has been mercilessly thrashed and bashed on by a professional racer.

Did you actually read the description? Near perfect condition. No structural damage, only paint chips.
If you're going to spend 800 bucks on a frame get something new. |
Chips are just on the top level of paint Obviously it doesn't mention riding conditions but I do know NJS BBs don't take too kindly to wet weather. If I had the money I might run it. Of course for a couple hundred more I could snag an entire bike. With an NJS frame
