First Fixed Gear for Beginner

hey I need some help picking a first bike. I don't even know where to start. I see them online for like 150 to 300 on amazon and ebay but I don't wanna get a peace of crap. im looking at building one latter to perfectly fit me but for now I wanna get a good starter bike to have some fun with and get use to before I make my build. thanks for any help you can give me. also I don't really have a budget I don't know anything about them but I don't wanna sped a lot on a starter.

Kilo tt pro use a fit calculator to determine what size you need. The pure fix premium is a nice option too.

Bikes: purty blue undefeated II 57cm

Apparently purefix has a new offering under their premium bikes, choromly frame, 1" headset, thick slicks and good customer service. Worth looking at and it's almost the same price as a kilo

I have a Motobecane Messenger from Bikes Direct that has treated me well for the past 4 years, no major problems. Just under that Kilo TT price range.

My buddy in Santa Monica rides a Pure Fix, he's a big guy and beats the hell out of it. That said, he's broken just about everything on it except the frame.

I never suggested otherwise.

there are some on this list that think Pure Fix is junk,,,I bought one from a guy that just didnt like fixies and he put it together very sloppy. I bought it for 150 about half price. I love it, I dont think it is junk. Seems a great deal at 150. I am going to ride it all the time this spring and summer. here is a pic, I put foot retention on it now.

I just wanted to reiterate for those who think I may have lost my mind for saying a Pure Fix bike isn't bad.

The Pure Fix you have and the one we're talking about in this thread are worlds apart.

I won't accept it as a credible ride until Scrod uses one as his daily ride for a month

Unlike KiloTT, Purefix is available in bike shops - check their site for dealers in your area...

^^What he said. You can at least hit a local shop and get a bike that fits properly, probably have some type of warranty, and at least have someone to deal with in the event that something isn't right.

On the Pure Fix website I put my zipcode in. 5 Shops in my area came up that sell them so like they said, see what shop has them around you. Tell them you want the premium though and not the cheapy crappy 5 color ones.

My area is a roadie wasteland and there are no Pure Fix dealers within 40 miles of my house.

Haha that's funny, there are 3 shops pretty close within 12 miles. The other 2 are over the bridge in New Jersey but are still only like 20 miles away.

HTFU 40 miles would barely get your legs warmed up

That's 40 miles if I take the freeway (bicycles not allowed), much longer by available local roads.
