Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Therein lies your problem. The Australian Velocity rims were a high quality product. The American ones are just another product. Keep working on the 'trying to improve' and maybe you won't have to say 'we're not perfect'.

I'm not being as harsh as that sounds (I've just got home from work and dead tired). If the company has the will, I'm sure you'll get there, but the company's reputation has taken a hit and that can not be taken back with platitudes. Maybe the new company plan is just to cover mass production. When my local wheel builders stop telling me to steer clear of Velocity, I'll look at them.

It sucks because "made in America" used to mean something.

Admit it @europa - a lot of your antagonism towards Velocity has to do with them leaving Australia, doesn't it?

That is offensive sunshine. YOU might imagine that 'just coz it's made in the states it's perfect', but that is not the sort of misogynistic attitude that the rest of the world applies. My antagonism towards Velocity comes from the feedback I received from both Australian AND American wheel builders after starting the search for rims for my Hillbrick. My first choice was the A23 based on my experiences with the Australian made DeepVs I'd already done thousands of kms on. I was immediately warned off them because of the quality of the American product. I researched further and got similar answers and that was before I approached an American wheel builder. The distinction I make between the Australian made rims and the American made rims is based solely on the company moving their production from one factory to another factory and the results of that shift. So take your nationalistic bull**** and shove it. Not everyone is as shallow as you are.

Statistically, our US-made rims are better than their Australian counterpart. We're now using Profile to run our extrusions for our high-end rims (A23, Dually, etc.), and they've got a long, long history in the cycling world and understand the precision needed for bicycle rims. We've worked hard to educate our Jacksonvile, Fla., factory employees and I am continually impressed by how seriously they take their jobs. Largely, they aren't cyclists, but they are very proud of what they do.

Apparently people ride statistics now instead of wheels. Good to know.

I'll start advertising that I'm an experienced statisticbuilder right away.
