Help Me Decide

I have been looking for a new fixed gear for some time now, my current bike is a fuji declaration and I just want to upgrade to a new bike. I have been looking at the State Bicycle-Black Label and I wanted to know if that is any good. My price range is about 600-1400, Thanks for reading!

Don't buy state bikes, and for 1000$ you can have real fun building up something yourself. Are you looking for a steel or aluminum frame?

Ultimately its not my decision but $1400 is a lot to spend on a ss/fg isnt it?

Considering all the cool guys around here say to buy a kilo for $450 and be done w/it.

Those of course are steel, you want alum. Im assuming a carbon fork? heres a start for only $430. Then take another $600 for your brooks saddle, neon green tires, little handlebar, messenger bag, some moustache wax, whatever you want. should be crazy styling for around 1k.

Now that's something I do not understand. If you want a decent bike, you have to pay for it and why should a fg not be worth decent steel, decent paint, decent components, etc. Not everyone uses them as a pub bike or leaves them chained to fences while they're at college, some of us actually use these bikes for more serious cycling.

The Kilos are recommended to people who only want to spend $400. People wanting to spend more, there are far better options.

This is where you should be looking.

Wabi Cycles Lightning SE fixed gear bike specs

Yes, it's steel, but you'll find it's a far nice bike than an aluminium one, especially as the ally bike will probably need a crapon fibre fork to make it rideable and will last a lot longer.

Anyway, I'm biased so you can safely ignore me

I suppose what im saying is if someone was looking for a serious racing track bike then spending $1400 is completely understandable.

Most people who want a ss/fg are using it for cruising around town, coffee shopping, bar hopping, etc.. and dont want the added perceived complications of gearing/deraileurs.

I assumed this was the intended use. I also assumed that most people who are riding distances or just riding for the sake of riding would do so on a geared bike. my bad sorry.

What sort of distances are you thinking about? There wouldn't be much to talk about here if there weren't people also going out for long hours on SS/FG and doing just as well as people with gears.

I'm not trying to start a pissing contest here, I'm not saying geared bikes are superior, or that a fixie rider is any less capable of doing just as well. I made an assumption that I've already appoligized for. I really need to watch how I phrase things in this sub forum don't I?
The op doesn't say, for competition, or touring, or whatever. My mistake for voicing my opinion.

I wouldn't get too upset about things mate, I'm not and I'm reasonably sure Hairnet's not. We get a lot of people who treat fg as a minor part of their cycling life, not realising that some of us prefer fg for all our cycling.

where i live its flat and the only hills are man made(bridges), so riding fixed is actually faster/easier than geared because of how flat it is. Ive been on 40 mile rides on my fixed gear and enjoyed them more than being on my geared bike.

+1 on Wabi.

Any of their models will also be in your price range.
