hey ... you're just the man i was looking for. i was looking for info on if/when/where in philly. i'm in town for business, usually in nyc. i need a bike, though. if you're afraid you might be the only one there, i could alleviate your worries if you'd hook me up w/ a bike.

hey, sorry to ignore your post. I was pretty much staying away from the topic. Yes, CM still meets in philly but I no longer go because I think it sucks. Without starting a flame war, I just hated that there were about 20 people out, who then spread out and take up the entire street and ride as slow as possible. I know Ashley (who runs the CM site) has been trying to get things more organized, but I dont see myself going back to CM at any time. I just dont see how annoying motorists by showing them that bikes actually CANT be part of traffic is supposed to help our cause. that is just my rant, but i do support people who like to go out and do that kinda thing. For me, Thrashin' Thursday and Twisted tuesday are enough of a group ride, the other days of the week I usually just ride on my own.
if you went, tell us how it was.

Yeah, I didn't make it, but I'd say for a group as small as 20, it'd be more fun to forget the "political" component of it, and just ride faster (moderately enough to allow the cluster to stay coherent) and, depending on circumstances, with less concern for strict adherence to the traffic codes. If you're bent on making a point, you can "demonstrate" to motorists that bicyclists are (practically, if not "legally") privileged to get around pesky red lights with our two-wheeled agility.

is it every tues and thurs?
where?
and i agree about the protest thing.....cauing a traffic problem does nothing....rather than stupid things that make bikers look bad...change will come when people buckle down and act like professionals to present the case....im not exactly sure what that case is...but that is what must happen

While I agree that the Philly critical mass isn't exactly what it should be, I'm not sure more organization would necessarily fix the problem. CMers just need to understand that the goal should not be to eff up downtown traffic and piss off motorists. I think motorists are probably a little perturbed no matter what when they see large groups of cyclists doing their thing, but I don't think any further aggrivation is necessary.
