Hahaha! Yeah man. I'm just giving you a hard time. I couldn't care less what people call their bike. I used the term rather loosely until I was informed, on these very forums, that it was uncouth.
Also, people tend to call me Michael for some reason. Like all the time. So I just use "HeyMatthew" in hopes that I won't forget my own name. LOL!

I vote we do away with contractions, abbreviations and jargon of all kinds while we are at it! English of the King only!

Had a pretty decent club sub for lunch today from a little sandwich shop down the street. And my co-worker's wife brought in some pumpkin dip with apple wedges and vanilla wafers. All-in-all, I'd say today was a win.

@TejanoTrackie, I agree with you. Who cares what you call it. even if you call it SS, fixie, fixed gear, track bike. It all means the samething.

FIXIE: On here it's a bastardized term for a fixed gear bicycle; at Urban Outfitters, it's a single speed bike with garish colors and terrible geometry from super drop bars and a way-too-tall seat post.
TRACK BIKE: On here, it's a bike specifically set up for velodrome racing; at Urban Outfitters, it's a single speed bike with garish colors and terrible geometry from super drop bars and a way-too-tall seat post.
Am I close?

SS: In cars, it is Super Sport; In Nazi Germany it is Schutzstaffel (Defense Corps); at Urban Outfitters, it's a single speed bike with garish colors and terrible geometry from super drop bars and a way-too-tall seat post; and on these forums, it's simply Single Speed.

-fixie: slang term for fixed gear
-fixed gear: fixed rear cog
-track bike: is a bicycle optimized for racing at a velodrome or outdoor track. Unlike road bicycles, the track bike is a fixed-gear bicycle; thus, it has only a single gear and has neither a freewheel nor brakes.
those are the terms I was talking about.....senior member...smh....psh...HAHA.

I'm just always amazed at the level of knowledge present on this forum. A veritable pantheon of cycling genius.

It's whichever one you want it to be. Example: if you want to go around saying you own a single speed, so be it. Or if you wanna say I own a fixed gear bicycle....once again you have that choice. Who cares what people call it. As long as we ALL know what it is, even if we tease people for the different ways. Another example: people in different areas call it "pop", "soda", "coke", but we ALL know what ya mean. What I'm trying to say is that we all speak the same language but our definition on certain items or things are going to be different.

Well the definition of a track bike is a bike with no brakes, and is a fixed cog....but also used on a velodome or track. So if it is, then ya I would call it a track bike.....because it is, what it is

Track bikes have to adhere to a number of specific rules, not just no brakes. So calling anything but a track bike, a "track bike" is both technically wrong and misleading in general.
If I ride this to the grocery store, it doesn't magically become a Townie.
If i ride this in circles it doesn't make it fixed gear or a track bike.
