Is are FixyTrak Bikes Good?// should we ban the term "FIXIE" (SERIOUS)

Just curious if fixy & trak bikes are good or no ha

Seriously, though. Mods, can you create a filter that censors the word "fixie"? It sounds idiotic and encourages people to continue bastardizing terminology. Also, it would be nice to merge similar threads from the same user created within 2-3 days of each other.

This is now a food thread:

Today I am eating coconut ginger fried rice with brussel sprouts, recipe from Post Punk Kitchen Brussel Sprout Fried Rice | Post Punk Kitchen | Vegan Baking & Vegan Cooking

I would agree that the "Is this bike good?" or the "What's a good fixie/ss/track bike for under [$$$]?" threads are getting pretty ridiculous. It would be nice to maybe make a sticky or consolidate threads so that there's just one thread for bike recommendations under, say $500.

Maybe create threads for price brackets? Like $0-500, $500-1000, $1,000+ or something like that.

A simple Google search for the best bike under a certain dollar amount turns up hundreds of thousands of hits so it's a bit ridiculous that they just keep getting posted here.

Besides, everybody knows that the #kilott is the best bike under $500. Like duh!

Not as good as Leukybikes. Best FIXIE in the whole wurl.

In all seriousness, let's see what the rest of the people here have to say.

If this gets put in place imagine the amount of threads titled when posted by new members:

"Is this a good *****?"
"Help me buy a *****"
"Recommend me a ***** thread"
"How much is this ***** worth?"
"Should I buy this ******?"
"Craigslist *****"

My knee jerk reaction is yes, ban it. But that's probably just not practical. Everyone sounds like a dolt as a noob, and perhaps use of the term fixie should be looked at as a teachable moment. Then if they use it a second time, their account gets deleted.

I'm much more in support of figuring out some way to limit the number of "What bike should get get for under $300?" threads.

I gotta admit, when I first started, I referred to it as a "fixie" which I now see less as endearing and more as frustrating "noob" talk. But, I guess we were all new at SOMETHING once. Can't know everything right from the get-go. I am tired of the "what's the best bike for $$$" threads though. They're annoying. Especially when there are several of them right on the front page.

Seems ironic that we're spending all this time trying to figure out how to get rid of them as opposed to just scrolling past them, which would take significantly less time. Then again, we're grumpy "fixie" riders. What the hell else do we have to complain about?

Sorry guys, but the term "fixie" is recognized by wikipedia, so you might as well accept it.

Fixed-gear bicycle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Move on, nothing to see here.

Right? What's WITH that crap, man? I mean, they said the penny tax would help the roads. "Get a bell and some lights," they said. I got a nice jacket for fall, but my nose is cold. Hummus is out of control. And I just flat don't even turn on the radio anymore.

We're in a sad state, my friend. A sad state, indeed. I ride in cold, hungry silence. Alone. In the dark.

I believe the proper phrase is "Bus' a cap in dat azz. Twice." Probably followed by some other obscenities.

Latin kings.

I don't know if it's always been like this but the last couple of days I haven't bothered to open most of the threads cause they are just"how good is this fixie" type of threads.

the stages of fixie:

Stage 1: You're a n00b so you use it

Stage 2: You learn a thing or two, and though once loved, you no longer hold an affection for fixie. In fact, you decide you don't like fixie at all. An ember begins to burn.

Stage 3: You've been around a while. You and fixie have become mortal enemies, engaging in battle after battle. A fire rages inside of you.

Stage 4: You are now a veteran. After many battles, you and fixie are at a standstill. You begin to question if you hate fixie, or respect fixie for being such an admirable foe. The fuel begins to run out.

Stage 5: Acceptance. You no longer hate fixie. At times, after a few drinks, you may catch yourself warmly remembering fixie, and even using it yourself at times without irony or guilt. It's ok, embrace it, you've earned the right to coexist with fixie.

Just wanted to say HELLZ YEAH PPK! As far as banning fixie...meh. You can't ban stupid. However some organization would be nice.

Also just wanted to let AristoNYC know that he has sweet tats and he should come to my fixies and tats convention (sponsored by PBR and Buyafixieeeeee.com) There will be sweet ironic moustache growing contests and who can pop a sweet wheelie and their sweet fixie the longest contest. Plus performances by Scrillix and Vanilla Ice. I can get everyone here in at a sweet discount so long as your fixie is bright enough and you have at least two sweet tats (rayban sunglasses, pbr logo, fixie bikes, money with your face on it...)

@TejanoTrackie, I agree with you. Who cares what you call it. even if you call it SS, fixie, fixed gear, track bike. It all means the samething. If you dont like hearing it called something, then "you" refer to it as you please, and so will others. you cant automatically change what people refer it as.

Hahaha! Yeah man. I'm just giving you a hard time. I couldn't care less what people call their bike. I used the term rather loosely until I was informed, on these very forums, that it was uncouth.

Also, people tend to call me Michael for some reason. Like all the time. So I just use "HeyMatthew" in hopes that I won't forget my own name. LOL!
