color question

so my good friend is building me a custom track frame. in fact, it's almost done and now comes the tough decision. what color(s) do i get it painted? it's old school standard tubing, henry james lugs, campy dropouts. the parts will be dura ace (7600) cranks w/black chain ring, headset, high flange hubs, open pro cd rims, 123 drops. any and all suggestions appreciated.

labratmatt 04-03-05 10:42 PM

Black with white and silver accents.

or

White with black and silver accents.

I prefer the latter.

labratmatt 04-03-05 10:43 PM

I should add this:

My next bike will be pink. So, take a look at pink. I heart pink bikes.

Shiznaz 04-03-05 10:45 PM

get it clearcoated raw for extra attitude

Cynikal 04-03-05 11:17 PM

My next paint job will be british racing green with cream lugs.

potus 04-03-05 11:57 PM

richard sachs clearcoated one of his frames, kinda cool

Red bike, black lugs, cream headtube

redfooj 04-04-05 12:25 AM

order of preference:

1. richard sachs red w/ creme lugs
2. white w/ chromed lugs
3. orange w/ light pastel (green?) lugs

or copy this.. it wouldn't be original... but it would be ****ing gorgeous:

Did you just say orange with pastel green lugs? You know, I thought there was something fundamentally wrong with Texas, and this just proves it. :)

My vote? Black with red lugs with red ice pearl in the clearcoat.....or BRG with cream head tube and seat tube......or just plain old fashioned pearl white.

To send you round the bend, have a look in the bikelugs.com gallery, semcustompaint.com, or spectrumpowderworks.com.

my mom told me, "if you dont have anything nice to say, don't say it at all."

after which she added that she has seen your bikes, and that theyre not likely to appear in any of those galleries anytime soon :)

misterherman 04-04-05 07:36 AM

emayex 04-04-05 09:11 AM

Whoodie 04-04-05 09:17 AM

angel 04-04-05 09:19 AM

not everyone looks good in red
not everyone looks good in yellow
but ya put them together and you get

If you are taking the time to get a custom frame that will last a lifetime, give it a coating that will last a lifetime, look into powdercoating! It will last forever, never chip off, and prevent rust better than paint will. Good coaters like http://www.spectrumpowderworks.com can even do multi-tone, metallics, fades, clearcoats, etc.

peace,
sam

P.S. I vote for polished and clearcoated. :)

Cream/vanilla/pearl white/off white/white tinged with grey or brown

WithNail 04-04-05 10:39 AM

Pearl white is beautiful. . . at least I like to think so. If you can, pearlescent white is perfect and the tiny flakes reflect the sun like reflective tape in headlights.

stronzo 04-04-05 10:50 AM

whoa, maybe i shouldn't have started this thread. now i'm overloading on ideas

keep 'em comin', guys.

brunning 04-04-05 10:55 AM

cream white with chrome stays and charcoal black lines on the lugs.

Jose R 04-04-05 11:05 AM

For color ideas, also check out David Kirk's frames here .

on edit:

the more I look at David's work, the more I want one:

Judah 04-04-05 11:27 AM

Forest Green with chrome lugs, or green horizontal tubes (chainstays, top, and down tube) and black verticals (seat stays, seat, and head tube)...

*laugh* As a professional Industrial and Graphic Designer, I'm soooo worried about not appearing in those galleries. Oh yeah, it's soul crushing. Keeps me awake at night

Okay, how about pale pink with lime green lugs? :D

honduraz10 04-04-05 08:32 PM

champagne color frame with blinding white cinelli bar tape and instead of the mavics get some pink velocity arrowhead rims

endform 04-04-05 09:10 PM

Something that's not going to look real dirty real fast. Me, I just bought a really deep brown frame with chromge accents. Seen essentially here.

http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/Italvega.htm

Understated yet super fly. I think I am going light blue for handle bar tape.

wilcru 04-04-05 09:11 PM

Copper with blue & orange. Like this: http://www.bikecult.com/works/collec...agasawaDP.html
