Are there general go to brands for freewheels that are good values in terms of quality and price? I found dicta, but I they appear to be crap according to reviews. I just need something to get around, not looking for any performance gains.

I'm looking for 44/14 or 44/15 for longer solo flat commutes, or even group rides. I prefer 14, because the fixed side is already 16, so more variety would be nice. I might have to get rid of a link to leave space on the dropout (or whatever you call it on fixies), but that's ok.

You need a special bmx hub with smaller threads for anything less than a 16t freewheel to fit.

well that totally blows. do they make cogs smaller than 16 for standard flipflop hubs?

ACS claws I've never had real problems with. 44t chainrings are ugly, get a bigger one.

I never considered white industries. not going to buy a freewheel that costs as much as my wheelset, no matter how good people say it is..

Fixed cogs down to 12T should be readily available; Phil makes an 11T fixed cog, but it requires a special lockring to provide chain clearance. Single freewheels for standard hub threads don't get smaller than 16T because the ratchet mechanism takes up space.

Shimano BMX freewheels are a good value, in my experience.

Another good choice IME is the ACS Crossfire single freewheel, which is about the same price as the Shimano MX30.

AC Racing made a 15T freewheel that fits on a regular F/W side of a flipflop hub people had mixed reviews with them....I had one on a BMX Cruiser that never failed....sold the bike kept the hub
