fixie + bier = magic

so, last night i (fixie) was riding home with a friend (road bike), drunken. when my friend slipped into the ever so deadly tram tracks. he ate it. i tried to squeeze between his crashed bike and a taxi when i slip into the tram tracks. now, usually when one's wheel is in the track, its over. but somehow i was magically able to take my feet out of the straps and land on my feet, while still holding my bike with one hand. does anyone else here experience such supernatural phenomenons while riding drunk? please share.

If by "supernatural phenomenons" you mean "drunkenly crash and break my nose" then yes, this has happened to me. I now wear a helment when I'm going to ride drunkenly.

i'm usually a very good drunk biker but i ate **** last night and it wasn't pretty. my bars are a little scraped on the side and i scraped my elbow but my hip took most of the damage. It hurts. it all happened really fast. i have no clue how it happened but all i remember is riding and then opening my eyes after a sudden something and realizing i was on the floor in front of a few cute guys. real nice. real smooth.

What usually happens up here in those situations is a few male cyclists (including me sometimes) commit asphalt-kiri and cushion the blow for the tender gender. We have so few female cyclist freinds, we must take care of them.

for some reason i'm not surprised that this quickly turned into a "i got so stupid-drunk that i hurt myself" thread.

Man, this one time I had so much PBR that I hurt myself on my bike. And it was cool.

Actually, my most spectacular crash was while riding a tandem two wheel drive tall bike in a jousting match. It was completely ill-advised, and ended predictably when we were rammed by a blind doofus who hit us head-on with his silly mountain bike. Really though, mounting the bike was incredibly difficult, and getting off was going to be impossible, so the eventual end was preordained. Oh, and I had quite a bit of gin in me at the time.

for some reason i'm not surprised that this quickly turned into a "i got so stupid-drunk that i hurt myself" thread.
So what, these threads are fun.

peace,
sam

Bikes: a disassembled bianchi lynx i'm gonna convert to ss, a felt roadie with carbon fork, and my baby blue peugeot roadie conversion. a couple sizes too large.

gotta love riding +. it didn't agree with me and came back up while riding down the west side bike path. i kept spinning through the hurling, and the worst was my gloves got it all over. three in the morning, so no witnesses.

the combo is magical, i say.

I think the very fact that most of you all have had negative experiences while riding drunk should be a dead giveaway...stop riding drunk =P

Only time I've crashed while drunk was when I got hit by a car. I actually managed to dodge the truck that was about to side swipe me only to get hit by an intrepid on the other side. . . I got the hell out of there right after the paramedics checked me out and before the cops could ask me what happend. They were laughing at me while cleaning out the huge gash in my leg because they could smell the whisky on me. I didn't really want to see the cops reaction to that though.

yea …i think i've crashed before while drunk, but its always those stupid crash things. i.e. coming to a still stand…feet stay in straps. or the ever popular legs-tangled-in-bars-drunken-dismount/mount.

Bikes: Public D8, Yuba Mundo (cargo), Novara Buzz (1-speed, soon to be 2-speed w/ a kickback hub), Xootr 1-speed folder

One night I was riding home (drunk) over the Brooklyn Bridge in the snow (when I lived in Brooklyn, mind you, before moving to Boston) and executed a full somersault over the bars (I don't know what happened to make me fall - I was pretty drunk) and landed, painlessly, not quite upright, sort of like a feet-first slide into second base. It was a ninja-esque maneuver, but the shock of having cheated serious injury, plus the realization of how wasted I was and how far I had to go still to get home prompted me to lie there for quite a long time, wondering whether I would freeze to death if I just slept on the bridge and went home in the morning.

No way, it's too fun and besides, it's not like crashing whilst drunk hurts or anything. Gotta love Makers Mark brand anesthesia.

Bikes: several. blue. fun.

i actually wiped out on my road bike when i had a small lapse of reason. i was going down the 16th st hill really super fast and i couldn't remember how to stop the bike. it was like, i forgot i had brakes on that bike. so naturally, my brain told me the best way to stop was just to fall off. so i did.
the best part, though, was that a cop was passing me. he stopped to ask if i was ok. i was very bloody and not looking nice at all, but my brain told me that sometimes you can get DUI's on bikes. i said 'just fine" and before even checking myself or my ride over, i hopped back on and pedaled off, just to prove how fine i was.
this was after about 6 beers and 1/2 a fifth of beam.

fine indeed. i still have scars. oh, and i found out that dc doesn't give bikers dui's.

i'd like to verify that yes, you can get a BUI in new york.
they call it "reckless operation of a bicycle" (and i'd like to note that this was just a few short blocks after he got a ticket for public urination.. haha)

My buddy was walking home after a party and garbage picked a bike.
He figured riding an old rusty bike with two flat tires would be a better way to get home than walking.
About six blocks later (while riding on the sidewalk) the cops pull him over, give him a DUI and haul him off to a private room with a SS toilet.
After he made bail and paid the fine he got a bill for vehicle storage.

Enjoy
