This is information for user [MENTION=61571]Spoonrobot[/MENTION] about how to get from the top of Brushy Mountain to the Silver Comet Trail. This is Georgia Conservation Program land (GLCP) so it is public, not private property. I have ridden this both ways several times.

Here is the route...1.1 miles south of the railroad tracks on Brushy Mountain Rd southbound, look for this entrance on the left...




Take the gravel road 2.2 miles. It looks like this...




At 2.2 miles you will see a foot path to the right. It is just before you get to the end of the road at Racoon Creek. There is a small pile of 3" aggregate stones near the path. Lots of Poison Ivy.

Take the footpath uphill to your left about 100 yards. You will reach the Silver Comet Trail about 2 miles east of the tunnel at the blue and white GLCP sign.

Although I will be honest it was more of a just to see if I could thing. Previously (sept 2015 I think?) I had ridden down brushy mountain with the thought that I could easily get on the silver comet and didn't realize the intersection was a tunnel with sheer rock sides so I missed it. This time I came up the silver comet and discovered that fact, but I sort of saw a side road up above so I did a little hike-a-bike and came out slightly prickled from the vegetation but onto brushy mountain nonetheless.

Anyway, in the future I will definitely take your route. Funny that I saw the road closed sign up top and wondered where it went but didn't think to stop and check.

This looks like a fun little side adventure off of the SCT. Would you recommend this for a standard road bike with 25mm tires?

I've ridden gravel around the area on a road bike with 25 mm tires. It is not optimal and slow going at times but doable. Brushy Mountain Rd over the top of the tunnel is fine gravel over packed dirt and will be a pleasure to ride on a road bike but this unnamed road is a bit gnarly.

You could do it if you go slow and are prepared to walk the steep sections. There is one very steep spot where I spin 35 mm tires when riding away from the trail.

It is worth taking the foot path away from the trail and turning right at the gravel road to check out Racoon Creek. Very pretty back there.

Is there anything to see at the top of Brushy Mountain?

Not really. I wasn't able to find much on why that road is named as such since it's not really on or near a mountain. The only mountain nearby seems to be Braswell mountain but you'd hardly know that unless you looked at a map since it doesn't really protrude much from the rolling country side.

Pretty roads and a couple of distant views but not much of note to see. It looks like this...
