Another cloudy rainy Tuesday, another no-show for the LowBees. Ended up doing 24 and change with the Tuesday night fast bunch - averaged 18.1. Don't feel fatigued and no leg cramps. That's surprising. REALLY looking forward to Saturday now. :thumb:

Only five of us showed up to ride today, Jim T Tom, Bob, and Jared and I. The original plan was to do the Winter Park loop with a stop at Tibby's. After some discussion at Panera Bread I suggested that we ride to Black Hammock (fish camp) so off we went. At some point the route got changed and we turned south in Oviedo and we headed for the Cady Way Trail. Tom broke off at Tuscawilla and headed for home and the rest of us went on to Winter Park. Well we can't ride that close to Tibby's and not stop so we did. I had a great salad that had fried green tomatoes in it and a cup of cheddar grits, boy was it good. Great ride everybody.

Its been 3 weeks since the accident so my "jail sentence" it over. Drove to the Hernando trailhead this morning and rode to the north end of the Withlacoochee and back for a total of 22.3 miles. Felt good to be back on my beloved Litespeed.
Tomorrow I'm heading over to Inverness Bicycle to look for a replacement for the Cannondale. Wish me luck. |
Good ride with John (aka Roscoe), Bob, Jim T, Ralph and Carl. Averaged 15.4 mph for the 19.8 mile segment PB to PB. Sky's were cloudy but no rain which is a good thing. Good ride everyone.

Rode the Litespeed from the Hernando trailhead to Inverness and looked at bikes again. Bob (the mechanic) had his bike there fro me to test ride. His bike is WAY more than I'm looking at. I'm looking at a Cannondale Supersix EVO carbon 105. He has a 2014 Supersix EVO HI-MOD Dura Ace. It cost about 3 times the bike I'm looking at. Took it for a short test ride and loved the Supersix EVO. :)
I was originally considering the CAAD 10 3, CAAD 10 5, Supersix EVO carbon Ultegra, and Supersix EVO carbon 105. After the test ride I'm sold on the Supersix EVO carbon. The really good news is that Cannondale has a "crash replacement policy". They take back the old bike (my 2013 CAAD 10 2) and give a 30% discount on a new bike. Without the discount the Supersix EVO carbon was out of my price range. But now the 105 and the Ultegra are less than what the insurance company is paying me. :) Bob (the mechanic) said the new 105 shifts just as well as the Ultegra and he said unless I really want the Ultegra he wouldn't recommend spending the extra money. So ...... long story short, I just called the bike shop and ordered the Supersix EVO carbon 105 in black. :) Here's the website pic. I'll post the real thing when it arrives. http://media.cannondale.com/media/ca...1409191717.jpg Anyway, after I left the shop I rode the Litespeed north to Holder. Stopped there and chatted with a fellow Litespeed owner, then headed back to the car in Hernando. Rode a total of 22.5 miles. |
Rode 24 miles in the rain this evening. Last 3 were a bit rough - it got late early :)
|
I rode 27 miles and walked 5.

Great group ride today, Rich, Ralph, Bob, Linda, Janelle, Roscoe, Barry, Jim T, Bill and yours truly. Total ride distance was 45 miles. Made the usual stop at Panera for coffee then tried to ride a route that had places to get in out of the rain if it started. Stayed cloudy all morning and no rain For the 19.5 mile loop from PB to PB we averaged 15.74 mph. It is nice to have Linda and Janelle ride with us, it adds class to the group.

Lots of folks on the Withlacoochee today. Were they getting ready for next Sunday's Rails to Trails ride or taking advantage of the cooler temps?
Rode from Hernando to the north end of the trail and back. Ran into some sprinkles for about 2 miles but stayed dry. |
Big group today, to many to mention everyone's name and I would probably miss someone anyway. Lesson learned today, don't ride on the Spring To Spring trail on Saturday or Sunday. Let me perfectly clear I would not restrict anyone the use of our trail system but some people have no sense about controlling their young children. Case in point about half way back we came upon a couple of families with about 6/7 children ranging in age from 3/4 years to 10/12 years of age spread over about 20/30 yards of trail length and from one side to the other. One rider went down and the rest of us had to scatter in various directions to avoid any additional carnage. I went off of the trail into the woods but managed to stay up. After walking my bike back to the trail I rode about 10 yards and another kid decided to ride across the trail at a 90 degree angle almost causing another accident. Parents take your children out and enjoy our trail system but for Pete's sake keep them under control. The trail is not a playground. Rant over.

Rode from the Hernando trailhead to the bike shop. Sherry checked the delivery info on the new bike and said it is on the delivery for this afternoon. :) Guess I'll be able to pick up the bike tomorrow.
Then I left the shop and rode south to just south of Floral City, turned around and headed for the Hernando trailhead. Rode a total of 27.3 miles. I can sure tell I was off the bike for 3 weeks. :o |
Great ride today with Jim T, Bob, Barry, and Larry. Our 28 mile loop from Panera Bread and back to Panera Bread averaged 16.4 mph. Very good ride everyone.

Rode from Hernando to the north end of the Withlacoochee, then headed south to the bike shop for a quick adjustment. Stopped for a gel and water and then headed back to Hernando. Rode 33 miles. |
Great ride with a great club, The Florida Freewheelers. Not to mention the ride was for a great cause. The CF people really went out of there way to make this ride a great success.
Our first 32 miles we averaged 15.4 mph with a bit of a head wind and a little more up hill grade. Our second 32 miles we averaged 16.8 mph with some tail wind and a little down hill grade. Garmin Connect |

Our 22.7 mile segment averaged 15.8 mph. Final 7 miles was at a very social pace. Roscoe was A.W.O.L. today, we could have used him to pull some today. Good ride everyone.

Rode the Litespeed from the house to the Withlacoochee Trail today (Hernando). First ride from home to the trailhead since the accident. I could tell I haven't been climbing the "big" 6% hill lately. :o
Rode north to the Gulf Junction trailhead and then headed for home for a total of 23.7 miles. I was very cautious when approaching and crossing every cross street -- especially Essex Rd. Hmmm. Wonder why?? |
2 miles. flatted out. walked home. found a tined eating utensil in the street. put it in my bag.
|
Really good ride today with Larry, Rich, & Roscoe for part of the ride.We met Ralph, Sandy, and Bob for coffee at Panera Bread then the hammer fest (at least for me started). Our segment from PB to Fox Spur then back to the 434 tunnel we averaged 16.6 mph. Thanks to Rich and Larry for doing all of the heavy work up front and letting me just hang on.

Rode the Cannondale from home to the Hernando trailhead and headed north. Stopped for a snack at the north end of the Withlacoochee and then headed home. Did a total of 36 miles.
Not many riders out even though the weather is getting nice. Wonder why? |
Rode from home to the Hernando trailhead and then north. Good news!! There is a water fountain at the north end of the trail again. Hope the vandals will leave this one alone. :notamused:
Anyway, got water and headed south and then home. Had a great tailwind while riding south to Hernando. :) Had the same wind as a headwind while riding home from Hernando. :o Rode 35.6 miles. |
Everyone else went to the hills this morning so I rode by myself to Panera where I met Ralph and Sandy and Rob. After coffee Rob and I continued on to the horse farms then out to the trail head. Nice easy ride with beautiful weather and great temps. Stopped at PB on the return trip and Jared rolled in so he rode back to the starting point with we. Good ride everyone.
