Haven't ridden since Thursday. Our friends who rented their 3000 sq ft house to us in 2012/2013 while our current house was being built finally decided they're tired of coming to FL for a couple of weeks a few times a year to fish so put their house on the market several months ago. They said they're over fishing. Been fishing since he retired in 2001. They finally got an offer a few weeks ago and decided to take it. They paid $380k for the house in 2006. The offer was $215k. Needless to say they were really disappointed. We spent all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday helping them pack stuff for the movers. They signed the papers this morning and said they probably won't be coming back to FL. They're happy with their 3000 sq ft "cabin" in the north GA mtns. I guess they like sitting by the fire for 8 months a year.
So I finally got a chance to ride today. :) Took the Cannondale out and rode to Hernando and then north to the end of the trail. Stopped for a snack and headed south and then home for a total of 35.6 miles. |
Got some new bibs so wore them today to see how they feel on the bike. Rode from home to the Hernando trailhead and headed south. Stopped at Inverness Bicycle and Fitness to ask Sherry when my wheels from the Litespeed would be finished. Then headed south to Floral City. Stopped for water and a snack, then headed home.
I like the bibs (Pearl Izumi Elite In-R-Cool). Next ride I'll test the other bibs I got (De Marchi Superleggero). Both are replacements for the discontinued De Marchi Contour Plus bibs I've had for the past few years. Anyway, rode 38.1 miles. :) |
After work, the girlfriend and I rode 10.25 miles from the St Marks trailhead, along Cap Circle SE, through Southwood, and back. Beautiful weather!

Hadn't ridden in over 2 weeks whilst fighting off a really persistent sinus infection. But I'd already paid the registration fee, so I went ahead, unprepared as I was, and rode the Gainesville Cycling Festival Santa Fe 55 mile route. It just about did me in; the 55 mile route had a couple of hills late in the game that I'd kind of forgotten about. I'm not too proud to play wheel-sucking moron when it's a survival imperative! Anyhow, finished the 57-1/2 miles in gorgeous weather at just under 16mph, and filled up on tasty catered pulled pork and dinner rolls afterward.

^^^ Kudos on finishing the ride. :thumb:
Took the Litespeed and did my usual ride today (home to Hernando to north end to Hernando to home). Gorgeous weather. Rode 35.5 miles. |

Today? Today??? Yeah, today... Well, I did a 25-mile fitness run yesterday in som wind (just about half the run) on my trusty Steel 1985 Schwinn Traveler - did it in just about 17 mph ave (that includes stopsigns and moron drivers). And today, weekly Monday club ride of 35 miles, moving average was over 18!!!!. (Gawd, I am spent!).
Everybody there had Trek Domane's or Lynskey's ---- and then there was me. But I kept up, pushed my pristine (but aging) best friend to over 24 mph at one point, highly motivated by a couple of highly perturbed, rural North-Carolinian junkyard dogs. Overall average (including drink breaks, direction breaks, and waiting for group 'b')......17.4 The Schwinn has still got it. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=414388 |

Took the Cannondale and rode from home to the W. Trail and headed north. Got some water and had a snack at the north end and then headed home. Very nice weather. :) Rode 35.5 miles.

I guess you'd call it a ride......:)
My daughter, who will be heading to college soon and says she wants a bike for getting around campus. Since all my bikes are too big for her and her committment level fluctuates some, I found her a well used but well cared for Trek 800. I picked it up yesterday for a song and we are going to spend some time today cleaning it up and seeing how she likes it. I rode it around the yard a bit just to check the shifting and braking. I had forgotten how much fun a simple little rigid steel frame bike could be. Looks like I'll have to hunt a similar bike for myself now. What's one more bike, right? |

I finally got out today. I've been sidelined since Thursday evening with a cold/flu/whatever. My wife said this was only the second time she remembered me being this sick in 21 years of marriage.
Anyway, I took the SuperSix out and did my usual ride from home to the north end of the trail and back -- 35.5 miles. |
The weather was cool and cloudy today but I went out anyway. Rode the Litespeed from home to the trail and headed south to the bike shop. Then rode north to Holder and turned around and headed home. Rode 35.4 miles
On the way out and home I was honked at while crossing the main entrance road to Terra Vista. Seems the rich folks don't like being delayed while on the way to wherever they were going. I'm so glad we didn't buy a house there with all the a-holes. |
I really don't like the wind we have been getting lately. I am looking for new routes so I can ride with the wind on the way home. ;)
|
I went out today to do my usual route on the SuperSix. Got to just south of the landfill on the north end of the W. trail and threw in the towel. I just didn't have any energy for some reason. Turned around and headed home. Rode 20.4 miles with an average speed of 12.1 mph. Sure wish I knew what was wrong. :o

Climbing makes you strong. Distance makes you lean. Intervals make you fast, but the wind makes you MEAN!! |

I finally hauled my carcass out the door after all the cold and and rain and wind. Took the Litespeed and rode from home to Hernando and north. Had water and a snack at the north end of the W. trail and headed home.
Rode 35.6 miles. |
32 miles Sunday, warm and windy, 32 miles Saturday, cool but not so windy. Not often we get two days this nice this time of the year.
|
congrats, you are still doing better than some of us
|
Took the SuperSix out today. Rode from home and did my usual ride to the north end of the trail and back. Saw a small doe crossing the trail about 1.5 miles north of Hernando. First time for that. Plenty of "visitors" on the trail. :(
Rode 35.5 miles. |
I forgot to post the ride I did on 12/3. It wasn't as much fun as usual because so many of the carpetbaggers are back down here. They drive too fast, they don't use their turn signals, they don't stop, much less slow down, to make a right on red, etc. So I've come up with a new "version" of Bill's rhyme.

Its been 10 days since my last ride. :( Helping my wife plan my "surprise" 70th bday party, dr apps, weather, etc have been stopping me but not today. Did 27 miles on the Litespeed.
Tomorrow I'll be out again for my birthday ride. I won't be doing 70 miles but at least I'll be out riding. :) [edit] I forgot to mention what I saw on the trail today. These folks were at the Citrus Springs trailhead getting ready to head out for a 15 mile ride. :) [/edit] http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=423523 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=423519 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=423520 |
The weather was close to perfect today -- glorious sun, no clouds, no wind. :)
Rode the Litespeed from home to the W trail and headed north. Not many cyclist for the first few miles. More came out to ride as the temps warmed up. Did a slightly different route so only rode 31 miles. :) |
