Good for you! At least the roads are nice and clean..for us in Ontario Canada ppfff we have to wait a lot longer for my first ride of the YEAR!
|
We were there for a week in 2006. I don't remember a white light house.
Glad you got back to riding and glad you had fun. |
It was another cool morning but warmed up quickly. :) Took the Litespeed and rode from Hernando to Inverness and then to the north end of the trail. Stopped to refill a water bottle and headed back to Hernando. While I was loading my bike in the car a guy parked next to me and took his 70s-80s era Schwinn out of the back of his pickup. He said he hadn't ridden in a long time. He asked how long the trail was, etc. I told him where he would find water and restrooms. He took off and got 10 feet when his chain came off the small chainring. He came back to his truck and put the bike on the tailgate and seemed to be having difficulty putting the chain back on. I showed him how to easily put the chain back on and gave him a quick tutorial. His bike looked like it hadn't been serviced in many years. Hope he gets at least a few miles before he has problems. :o
I rode a total of 33 miles. |
The wife wanted to go out for breakfast today (no surprise there ) so we got up and out in a hurry. Got home at a decent hour so decided to go for a ride. Did my usual ride to the north end of the trail and back for a quick 22 miles. :)
|
Got out "early" today. It was 52F when I got to the trail. Did't see any other riders. :twitchy:
Headed north and finally saw a couple of cyclists when I was about half way to the north end. Saw a few other cyclists at the north end of the trail. Headed south and saw even more "late" starters. At Dearborn Road I came upon a group of about 25 __________ (you fill in the blank) on recumbents, trikes, and a few on road bikes blocking the entire trail. :notamused: Looked like some sort of group meeting. Not sure why they had to block the entire trail rather than moving off the trail?? Took them almost a minute to move aside enough so I could walk my bike through. Talk about rude!! They obviously don't know the trail rules. And they most likely aren't from around here. |
Took the Cannondale out today. It was a Florida Chamber of Commerce type of day. :) Did a sight variation of my usual ride for a total of 27.5 miles. :)

After what I've observed for the past couple of months of trail riding, I've decided that the Withlacoochee Trail has become Florida's largest dog park. Some days there are more people walking their dogs or pulling them in a chariot or riding on trikes with the dog in a basket behind the seat. :notamused: I think (actually I'm hoping) most of the dog owners are snowbirds.
Did a different ride today. Rode from Hernando to a few miles south of Floral City and back for a total of 29 miles. |

I replaced my worn out Speedplay Light Action cleats on my Sidis yesterday so had to try them out today. I rode from Hernando to the north end of the Withlacoochee Trail and back. No play or sloppiness in the pedals/cleats. :thumb:
|
After a month of holidays, bronchitis, and pretty consistently rotten weather, the stars all aligned
and let me get in a ride yesterday. 17 whopping miles for the first ride of 2017.. How fitting.... |
Took the Litespeed out and did my usual Withlacoochee Trail ride today. It was a gorgeous day so did 30.5 miles. :)
|
Another Florida Chamber of Commerce day. :) Took the Cannondale out and did 27 "breezy" miles on the Withlacoochee Trail. Had a tailwind and an occasional crosswind from the east when heading north and a headwind then a crosswind from the west when heading south. :twitchy:
|
After the storm on Sunday and all the wind we had Sunday and Monday, the Withlacoochee Trail was a mess. Luckily as I rode north from Hernando the truck that pulls the giant blower was headed south. The first few miles were like an obstacle course. Once the truck passed the trail was clear of debris. :thumb:
It was still rather windy today so only did 22 miles. |
22 blustery miles for me and my buddy Sambo yesterday.
Feeling quite rusty but a little better each time out. Gonna be cold the est few days, so we'll see............ |
Another breezy afternoon in the Pine Belt.
Sambo and I rode 31 miles this afternoon, and, as usual, it took about 12 miles for me to warm up to where I felt like doing a little work. That lasted about 1 1/2 miles................. If I can get out for about 20 or so tomorrow, I'll finish January with over 100. |
I've been house-bound since last Wednesday. My wife had surgery and I didn't want to leave her for more than a few minutes. She's almost fully recovered so told me to go riding today. :)
Tomorrow i have my annual stress test so was glad to get out and get my heart rate up. Haven't ridden since last Tuesday. Did a sunny but cool 27.5 miles. |
I was on my own today, so I just did a relatively short 20 miler.
Still a bit breezy, but it is only going to get worse as we head into spring. |
Another Florida Chamber of Commerce day; 68F when I got to the trailhead. I know the local businesses are glad to have the visitors but I wish the C of C would cool it a bit. I'm tired of all the northerners taking up all the parking spaces at the trailheads, and many of them don't know the trail use rules. :notamused:
Anyway, I did a modified Hernando to the north end of the Withlacoochee Trail and back route for a total of 27.5 miles. |
It was another breezy day today. Rode north from Hernando with a headwind (~12 mph) and a nice tailwind riding south for a total of 22 miles. :) Then I went to se my cardiologist for me stress test results. He said I'm still alive. :)
|
Another nice and slightly breezy day on the Withlacoochee Trail. Rode with a slight crosswind/tailwind from Hernando to the north end. Had a nice crosswind/headwind heading south. Rode 22.3 miles. :)
|
Went out for a nice, slow 32 miler on Saturday.
Intended to ride my age for my b'day on Sunday, but went almost 1/2 way. But, that's OK. |
A pleasant 25 solo miles today, at a pace that allowed me to still walk after I got home.
|
Another awesome day in west central Florida. Took the Litespeed out for a nice ride. Tuesday and Thursday are the days many of the local groups get together for rides. Saw four different groups enjoying the great weather. :thumb:
Rode 29 miles. :) |
Sunday ride
Yup, with a hangover from a scorpion bowl-for-two I got out for an hour and a half on roads that have a lot of melting snow, frost heaves and mud. The spray in my face was wicked at times. But temps were in the low 40s and that is a gift day on Maine.
