Got out today but not quite early enough. It was just after 8AM when I got to the Withlacoochee Trail. My only comment about today's ride is, SUMMER IS HERE!!!!!
|
Did my last ride for a while today. I'm having hernia surgery to repair a hernia that was repaired last May. :twitchy: Depending on what the doc has to do to fix it (he said there are 2 options depending on what he finds once he gets in there) I'm guessing I'll be off the bike for 6-8 weeks. The only good thing about this is summer (think 90+ degrees with 90+ % humidity) will be about half over when I get back out there. :) :p

What do you mean about Summer, I thought you liked the warm weather down here? 😉 All the best buddy. See you back on the trail in a few weeks, and remember it's not cooling down much before mid September at the very least. |
Been a really off year for me finding time to ride. This weekend I just rode about 25% of my yearly total...

No energy
I got out to the Parklands of Floyds's Fork but I had to cut my ride short I had no energy. Only made 13 miles "mostly hills" after doing 21 miles Friday.

Saw the surgeon today for my post-surgery follow-up. He said I have to continue to wear the body wrap for 4 more weeks and I can start riding in mid-July. :o
Are you almost ready to get back out here and ride? |

It's not about the number, it's about being out there and enjoying the ride. 👍 |
Sure did...
Hey everyone! Rode 20 miles on the Pinellas Trail today which is my personal best so far. I'm pretty new to cycling (my intro is over on the Introduction thread). I've only ridden on the Trail and still a bit hesitant to use the roads.
I suppose I'll be looking for a group that accepts noobs that rides on weekdays at some point once I get stronger riding skills. |

Get familiar with your bike and how to handle tricky or emergency situations. When you're ready to try the roads, find an experienced friend to ride with. |
I'm back!!!!! Got out this morning on the Litespeed for my first ride since May 30. Did a whopping 8.5 miles from my house on the Citrus County trail that connects Hernando to Crystal River. Its not flat like the Withlacoochee Trail so I feel good. :thumb:
|
I did it! I actually blew the sawdust and cobwebs off the bike, aired up the skinnies, and rode the thing. :D Headed up to the end of 43rd Street & back... 16mi at 15.2mph. Not bad for being a lazy so-and-so for the last four months. And my legs aren't aching today either. :D

Breaking in my new Domane.
17th 20.4 mi, 80 degrees 18th 33.4 mi, 92 degrees 19th 20.9 mi, 92 degrees Humidity 80ish% Love it. |

Got out this morning, but not quite as early as I'd hoped (took me 'til 1am to finish streaming yesterday's Tour stage  ). Ran up 241 to the Pick Kwik in Alachua and back. Alas, I forgot to check the weather before I left, and it wasn't until I was almost in Alachua that I spotted a flag; yep, winds were from the south, so the return leg was a bit of a groaner. 30mi at 15.1 average. Not bad. |
Our company is gone so got out again this morning for ride #2. Rode the Litespeed from the house along the county trail that runs parallel with SR486 and did the 6% grade hill. Rode a total of 14.2 miles with a whopping 330 feet of climbing. Not bad for "flat Florida". :p

Rode for about an hour. First time ever really riding, I averaged 8mph lol. Really want to get faster, going to take a while to reverse the damage from smoking cigarettes :P

When I was still working I bike commuted to work 3 days a week when my job was 15 miles from home. Then I'd ride on Saturday with friends. When I changed jobs and work was only 8 miles from home I rode 5 days a week. Still did the Saturday rides. :) Bike commuting can be great fun. :thumb: If you want more info about it the good folks in the Commuting forum can help. |

Glad you're out there. :thumb: Can you ride 3 or 4 mornings/days/evenings per week?

I have mostly been riding on sidewalks because im terrified of being in the road with cars. Will try to find some designated bike paths and trails around me. |
25 miles!
Got my furthest distance (so far) - 25 mi/40.2k! It was already 86F at the time I left and that was at about 8:30 am.

Did you see the new Coast to Coast trail ? Coast-to-Coast Trail, 250 miles east to west across Florida | BikeFlorida.net |
I ride on the Withlacoochee Trail all the time. That trail and the Suncoast Trail (which I have ridden on many times) are a part of the "soon to be completed" Coast-to-coast Trail.

Thank you so much for the info I really appreciate it. The hardest part of a new hobby for me is knowing where to get info, so this really helps me alot

Grabbed a slice of not-raining after work and boogied out to the end of Millhopper Road and back. Nearly no wind. Tried to baby it over the hilly stretch coming back over the Interstate (highest point in Alachua County - two hundred and mumble feet  ), and felt surprisingly energetic the rest of the way back in. 20.9mi @ 15.4mph. Happiness is!

Got out early today for ride #3. Rode the Cannondale on the county trail from home to the Withlacoochee Trail. Then rode about 1/2 mile and turned around for a total distance of 15.4 miles. For some reason the Cyclemeter app on my iPhone said I did a whopping 330 feet of climbing on my last ride but today it says I only climbed 304 feet. It was the same route as last time plus the extra mile on the W T. :foo:
