Did the usual again today, 22.3 miles. It is supposed to be really hot and humid the next couple days, so get out early! To bad the weather isn't like last week, nice and cool. Oh well, give it another month and it will probably be perfect around here.

I don't know if I'll ride tomorrow or not. I tweaked my knee somehow today when I was starting from a stop and now it is a little tender. Must be getting old, I hurt things and don't even know how I did it!

its amazing

yes i did an easy 25 miles today. its amazing how one day you just wake up to yourself and become aware of how much stronger you have gotten. i remember over a year ago trying to get up to 24 mph seemed so fast and also was a speed i couldnt maintain, and here yesterday was doing 23 mph north not pushing myself at all, had a tail wind but when i had to turn around did a constant 20.5 in the head wind without a struggle, and that was with missin the last week of riding cause i had the flu, and then going into a resp. infection lucky me. but was so glad to clear the head and just get on my wheels

did an easy 14.4miles last night with a friend who is just starting out. he increase his avg. from 12.6 on monday night to 13.7 last night. We hit the Pinellas trail from 102 to 22 and back. I sprinted up all the bridges then slowed down to wait for him after the descents.

Friday 10/09/09... Took yesterday off so I felt like I had to ride today. If you are observant you will note that I said felt like I had to ride, not that I wanted to ride. The humidity was 97% when I left the house, and the feels like temp was 95 when I got back. I think I am still feeling the effects of the Withlacoochee Trail Ride last Sunday.
All is well in Slo Spoke Jim's world.

I rode my normal 22.3 miles yesterday and my knee was still bothering me a little bit. Today I decided to take it easy and just did 13.4 miles on my old Puch. The wind has been blowing pretty steady around here lately. I hate riding into a head wind for 10 miles!

Yes, but only about 10 miles. We rode over to the airport and then around the warehouses. It was still warm at 5:30 but we rode for about an hour. Tomorrow we are riding in Trek's Breast Cancer ride here in Ocala. It starts at 10 and only goes 10 miles but for a good cause. They say no one will be dropped which is a good thing for this slow biker.

Got out again this morning while the wife and kids were off doing something 4H'y. 23-1/2 miles- out 39th , up 241 and back in Millhopper. Two things are apparent if I'm gonna survive the Santa Fe ride week after next - first, I need more saddle time. Second, 42x21 is NOTa low enough gear! I feel a 39t small ring will be acquired shortly. Oh, and I thought October was s'posed to be cooler?!?!?!

Yes, we rode in the Trek Breast Cancer Awareness ride in Ocala. 31 riders. It was only 10 miles but late morning so it was already hot. This was my first official ride and I was one of the last ones to finish. There were several that took short cuts so I feel good that I did it all anyway. Nice that no one was dropped and we had plenty of support for the traffic. Good cause and nice folks at the Ocala Bicycle Center. Some nice door prizes from Trek too.

10 miles - did the Trek Breast Cancer ride with the family, (minus the 3 month old) I pulled the 8 year old and 2 year old in our Nashbar trailer (Burley hitch) - had the two get on the scale pre-ride, 89lbs. The ride started w/ a mile long climb onto the Natchez Trace Parkway - it totally kicked the wife's butt. Surprisingly, I never did need 1st gear pulling the kids up, it wasn't really that bad at all. The 11 year old did pretty well on her 650c wheel'd road bike. (click for photo)

Made it out about 12-1/2 miles this afternoon. Had to run by the bike shop and figured why not do it on the bike? It was scorching hot out there, like riding on a griddle!

It was cold here this morning and my time was limited, so I got back on the trainer for the first time this fall. Yep, it's still boring, but with a full season of road riding behind me it was easy going.

I didn't ride over the weekend at all. My knees have been bothering me and then kicking a soccer ball on Friday night did them in. I finally got back out this morning for my usual 22.3 miles. Real foggy, didn't get my glasses on until about 9 miles in.

I put together two of my normal loops today and did 30.5 miles in 2:13. I had a goal time of 2:30, so that's ok for me. I really need new gearing and tires.

Tuesday 10/13/09... Interesting ride today for me at least. I had a doctors appt. at 8:20 this morning so I decided to take the bike instead of the car. I rode down the SWT (Seminole Wekiva Trail) to Douglas Road. Took Douglas for about a mile to the Dr office with time to spare. After the appointment I jumped back on the trail and headed north to my favorite Panera Bread. When I got to E.E. Williamson Rd I took a right to do my ride thru Mandarin Estates (this adds about 6 miles to my normal ride). I saw a rider about a quarter of a mile ahead of me so I took off after him just to see if I could catch him. It took me a little while to close the gap but I did. I spoke to him as I passed and rode on. When I got to the back of Mandarin I turned right into Vera Monte to add another mile and a half to my distance. As I was coming out of Vera Monte I saw him a again about a quarter of a mile up the road. So I took off again to see if I could catch him before we got to Panera Bread. I caught him about a half mile before PB so I made some small conversation as we road along. We talked some more at PB and exchanged phone numbers for future rides, seems like areally nice guy. He headed back and I had my usual salad and Iced Tea and then headed for home. When I got back to Montgomery Rd I turned left for about a 1/4 mile to the post office and dropped off my Dinottee Light that I am sending back for repairs. Then it was on to Publix to get my Rx filled and they filled it for free (how good is that). It was a good day for me.

1 Dead Armadillo today

Did the usual 22.4 miles today. I had a longer rest stop than usual as a client called while I was riding and I spent 35 minutes talking about his new idea for his boat. By the time we got done, the wind was started to blow pretty good, of course from the direction I was going! Not a bad ride overall, although my knees are still not completely happy. I am not going to kick soccer balls at practice tomorrow night, I'll leave that for the kids.

Ride # 2 today

Tuesday 10/13/09... Decided to take a second ride tonight. The Dr prescribed something called Sulfamethoxazole today and advised me to stay out of the sun while taking it. So my rides may be short and late evening or very early mornings or not at all for the next 10 days. I gave the car keys to my wife so that I will not be tempted to go to the LBS to get a fix.
