Cyclist killed in hit and run
POTTSVILLE, AR - A bicyclist has been killed in a hit and run accident.
Pottsville Police Chief Sam Heron confirms that bicyclist Sam Avery was hit from behind while traveling northbound on Pine Ridge road around 8:05 a.m. Saturday morning. Avery was taken to St. Mary's Regional Hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Police say Avery was participating in the Valleyfest Bike Festival when he was struck by a 1999-2002 maroon or burgandy dodge truck. The truck had damage to the front passenger side.
Pottsville police ask that anyone with information on this accident contact them at 479-968-2864. Or call the Pope County Sheriff's Office at 479-968-0911.

Arrest made in hit-and-run that killed bicyclist
A hit-and-run over the weekend that killed a bicyclist has led to the arrest of an Atkins woman.
According to reports, Shawna Scribner made her first court appearance Monday and was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a felony. She was being held on $25,000 bond.
Sam Avery was riding in the 40-mile Tour de Valley race on Saturday morning when he was hit on Pine Ridge Road. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died.
Witnesses told authorities to search for a maroon Dodge pickup that was damaged on the front passenger side.
The truck was spotted over the weekend and the arrest was made.
