a Santa Monica mtns ride. Do most of them start from the Commons, that's only about a mile from my house, very handy.

No, starting there was an idea one of the ladies had. There is a group of members who send e-mails around and meet for non-scheduled rides. I usually do one of these remote-start rides on Saturday and go to CSUN on Sunday.

Got anything planned for the 14th?

Ha, calling that "just a commuter" is like saying "oh, my porsche is okay for picking up the groceries". :) Very nice custom. Who's the frame builder?

roadfix 10-09-06 02:33 PM

What is this Sat Rose Bowl ride you all keep referring to?

Just one of the scheduled sfvbc rides that started out of CSUN on Saturday. Here is the routeslip I did on it:

Vancemac, have you been on this ride and if so, what is the tempo?

Well, yes, that is the ride we did on Saturday. There were two groups that left CSUN that morning, and the fast race weenies (he said jealously) were all definitely on the Rose Bowl run. But what I like about the fast rides is that you can usually hang onto the pack for the warm-up, and even when they get cranking on the flats if you pay attention the draft. I get dropped like an anchor on the hills (I've only been back riding 2 months), but so far, they've always waited at the bottom for the stragglers. Very kind. I'm not sure I answered the question you asked?

No, you did. :D And when I do eventually join, you'll have company on the hills. ;)

I think that I met several people from SFVBC at the MS Ride this weekend.

Bill (older guy), Lisa (redhead), and three other women (I'm bad with names when I am drinking beer) that I sat next to on the bus back home.... Bill was wearing the blue Arrogant Bastard jersey and told great stories about white water rafting and other endurance sporting events (84 miles in a canoe  ). They all seemed like great people, so if they are part of the group then I'll have to come up for a guest appearance since they were so nice (even after I yelled at them)...

HAHAHA

And just to be clear, there are usually at least 2 other rides leaving at same time, and I've found that even if it is a level "1" ride, it still has some fast people on it that will break out... and, of course, regroup at various points. I just can't say enough good things about the club. Just perfect. The "unofficial" ride today was another fun jaunt across Santa Susana Pass, which naturally kicked my butt. :)

Oh, I've ridden with the club and couldn't agree more. After all, I met Big John, Sarah, Cathy, Deb, Vicky, Orie and a whole host of other cyclists by riding with that group over a year ago. And you couln't ask for nicer riders than those mentioned above. I was dropped like a sack of potatoes on the Two Tujunga ride climbs, but they still waited for me at the top of the hills. :o

I can't wait to read your ride report, Phil. Get to writing! ;)

roadfix 10-09-06 03:19 PM

These SFVSC rides sound like fun. Perhaps I should sometimes go over the hill, back into my old bario and join you all on these rides...:D

urbanknight 10-09-06 04:06 PM

The group 1 ride last Satruday had a nice, relaxed pace. I was in the fastest group (although not the strongest rider) and we averaged just under 14 mph not counting the rest stop. We actually caught the slower group a second time after we missed a turn costing us a 2 mile detour up a hill I'd rather do on a mountainbike.

I can't get the route slips to work for the Simi ride this Sat, but I was thinking of doing that 46 mile route. Anyone else up for that? I'm assuming Santa Susana Pass is the worst of the climbs.

Yeah, it's a homebuilt. I put this one on the road 6 years ago next month. Glad you like it.

Not yet, we usually figure it out later in the week. I'll post a thread if anything special comes up. Otherwise, I'll just go to CSUN.

Yeah, Urban, it looks like the link is messed up. Here is a good one

And, the Santa Susana climb is the longest of the day. Pretty flat ride.

For those with flexible work weeks, the Wednesday rides are very well-attended, as well. The slow group (misnomer alert) leaves at 8:15... fast group at 8:30. (Village Coffee Roaster, Woodland Hills, near 101 and Mulholland).

Thanks, I printed it out so I have it already. Looks like a relatively nice ride, although coming back over Santa Susana on the way back will be a slight challenge for me. Other than that, it looks similar to the good ol' Simi ride the pros and elites used to host every week. They would make a full 50-70 mile loop returning via Calabasas or Malibu.

Last call for a brisk ride tomorrow in perfect cycling weather! Play hooky!

Don't tempt me Vance. Grades are due tomorrow and this "super duper" online grade system is making me want to throw my computer out the window! Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
