Some crazy stuff from http://www.gigapxl.org/

It's a project in large-format photography, and a sampling of its capabilities - the crazy thing is that these are all from the SAME PICTURE (first ones posted) - not zoomed, separate shots.

Torrey Pines Golf Course -

Keep in mind this is the same picture - just showing a 4% area of the full-size -

Insane detail ability -

Good thing he wasn't picking a wedgie or something!

I had to look twice to see the couple in the original picture -

Hi Luwin,

I've seen the site before and the technology and process are quite interesting. This kind of photography can have fantastic historical applications. I always love the side-by-side shots of a downtown location from 50 years ago with a present-day shot. Side-by-side gigapixel shots would have that much greater impact IMHO. :D

Woman tries to flush newborn down toilet at McDonald’s restroom, police say
By CHRISTINE VENDEL
The Kansas City Star

A baby born in a toilet at a McDonald’s suffered no injuries from the water or the mother’s reported attempts to flush the toilet, police said Tuesday.

The premature baby, who was born at an estimated 32 weeks of gestation, was in stable condition at a hospital Tuesday. Kansas City police said they expected the infant to survive.

Police continued Tuesday to investigate the circumstances of his birth about 12:30 p.m. Monday inside the restaurant at 3741 Broadway. No charges had been filed Tuesday against the 20-year-old mother, a McDonald’s employee.

Co-workers and police gave this account:

While working in the drive-through area, the woman appeared to be in pain and said she needed to use the restroom. When she had not returned in 15 minutes, another employee checked on her and asked what was wrong.

“You don’t even want to know,” the woman reportedly responded from behind a closed stall door. Later, she said that she was bleeding and opened the bathroom stall door to show the co-worker.

The co-worker thought the woman was suffering a miscarriage and told a manager to call 911.

Paramedics responded to the call and talked to the woman, who still was on the toilet. She reportedly told them she had “flushed three times but that it would not go down.”

A paramedic asked her to stand and saw a baby face down in the water under some toilet paper. The baby was not breathing and had no pulse.

The paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation. An employee standing outside the restroom soon heard the baby crying.

The baby’s mother reportedly told the ambulance crew that she did not know she was pregnant or had given birth. But police said they have information that the woman had told friends about the pregnancy, and a co-worker said many McDonald’s employees either suspected or knew it.

An ambulance took the baby and mother to separate hospitals. Police did not interview the mother Tuesday because she was sedated.

Investigators were conducting a child protection investigation to determine whether a crime had been committed, said Sgt. Michael Hicks of the juvenile unit. He said they would be looking at the woman’s actions, state of mind and mental capacity.

“She’s the key,” Hicks said. “The potential was there for this child to be harmed, but fortunately, he was not.”

The woman, who had worked at the McDonald’s for about a year, lives with her grandmother, according to co-workers. Workers from the Missouri Children’s Division took custody of the baby, Hicks said.

My coworker tells me I should install an orange flag on my bumper like you see on children's bikes or ATVs out on the desert.
