Southern-fried-ville, which would be Clarksville, TN. And no, I'm pulling it back on the food today. Yesterday, I ate so much! (too much to list) at 10:00pm I had apple crumb pie with icing. Yup. In the south, we mean business and ice our pies (that gooey, cream cheese type of icing, too). But, trust me, John, the grits, biscuits and gravy, slabs of salt-cured-ham, real Jimmy Dean sausage and butter scrambled with eggs will be on Tuesday morning. That's our Christmas day breakfast in MO with my mother's clan.

Okay, so I realize that I'm going to appear dumber than a doorknob, but MadMike, I can't tell from the map how many miles and exact elevation gain. Do you know? If so, I'll update the first post. Thank you.

M.E. you have one of those wonderful voices that just sticks with a person, and I am giggling because when I read your posts now, I hear you speaking the words in my head. What's weird is that knowing that you're in Southern-fried-ville right now, your accent is coming through in your posts.

Why thank you, Brandy girl! I just want ya'll to have the full effect. And yes, my tongue is just dripping with molasses talk right now. My sister is talking to my Mom behind me, and her name is Julia. We pronounce it Juuya. Oh...Lord. If I click my slippers together, can I get back to OZ!

C'mon, at least throw on a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream on that thing!!! (Apple pie a la mode is one of my favorites - in fact, I think I shall fix myself some for breakfast . . .)

Actually, my mom forgot to buy vanilla ice cream and all we have in the house is Cherry-Chocolate-Crunch (don't ask). My dad, who is in great shape and has a massive sweet tooth, said he was going to melt cheddar cheese on his and put a scoop of that cherry ice cream on top with whipped cream! I don't know if he did, because I just couldn't look at that point!

I don't know about the locals handing them out to us as that'll be really cool but at least they have a little press in the village and publish their own paper, the Mt Baldy News. The least I can do is to shove their paper up my jersey instead of the LA Times.

I'm out! I may not be recovered enough from illness for this ride. And if I am recovered, then a friend of mine has asked me to spend the day in San Diego with her. She's supposed to take a quick tour of this one company (bleh) but then we'll visit Torrey Pines state park, visit the beach, and watch the sunset. And then have Mexican food. Oh, and at some point somehow squeeze in Julian pie. At least that's the tentative agenda. Disneyland may or may not happen the day before.

Sorry M.E. I know I promised to ride up to the lifts with you, and this really was my ride as much as it is your ride, so I feel bad about backing out. I hope we'll ride again sooner rather than later.

The construction on Sierra Madre is still going on and ther are signs saying no bicycle traffic. I went through there on the bike months ago, but the threatening signs weren't there. After GMR, you might have to go down to Foothill to get back to the start.

Thanks, John. I was hoping it would be cleared up. Well, maybe, if people are up to it, I'll take us down little GMR and back down 39. You know, Round trip or Out-n-Back? Your thoughts?

You're so cute. Silly, you'll see LOTS either way. However, if we do DO an out-n-back, there will be an extra water stop (but there is a tiny bit more climbing on the way back). I'll let you guys vote.

That'll add a few more miles and miss the fun of going down GMR without traffic.

I did it this Saturday and detoured around the construction by going doing Barranca to Foothill and back to Escanto that way and it's not that bad...

I thought the original plan from the village was to go back up GRR and down main GMR to Glendora, and back to Encanto. One of the main attraction of this ride is bombing down main GMR...

Okay, okay. I WON'T offer any more variations. We'll 'bomb' down big GMR and then take Foothill if we have too. I'm bringing route slips, so this shouldn't be an issue and it will all turn out good. I can't wait! Except, that darn Jason. Hmpf! He's putting me over getting...well, never mind. Now that I think about it, I totally understand.

EDIT: I meant, "he's putting getting laid over me...." Oh, now I'm in big trouble!

I understand that an official route slip is forthcoming but meanwhile for those not quite sure of the basic route we're taking:

Encanto Park >> up hwy 39 >> East Fork Road >> up little GMR >> GRR >> Baldy Village >> (ski lifts, optional) >> Baldy Village >> back on GRR >> down main GMR >> Foothill Bl >> Encanto Park >> LUNCH!

Yippee!!! I'll put both of you and LABaby on there as well. I'm working on the route slip right now but am having difficulty. I don't know how to get to the ski lifts. I've never climbed it. Bob, whom I've ridden that ride with many times, and I just get cokes and snicker bars at the trout pond before climbing up and out of the village and back down. So, I'm at a loss with where the lifts actually are.
