We'll see. My knee has been giving me a lot of problems climbing... my body's way of telling me I shouldn't have climbed Piuma on a 34/23. I'm going to climb Sepulveda tomorrow and see how it goes. If my knee hasn't forgiven me yet, I'm gonna have to do the 30 mile flat SFVBC route on Sat instead. If my knee is fine, I'm up for 6500 feet on my new 13-29 cassette!

Well, if we roll at 9:00am sharp, I'm hoping to be done no later than 2:30pm (actually, 2:00pm - but I'm taking into account that we're...well, I'm...bloated). Of course, there is a lot of climbing involved which always takes longer, but coming back is a pretty swift descent down the mountain. You could always go back ahead of the group if you needed to, and I suspect you'll climb a little faster too (you'll be up with Phil and other billy goats, I'm sure). I've never been to the ski lifts and if it takes a while to even get to the village, I may skip it (knowing my own level and speed), but last year, when I was in better shape and riding up there all the time, I got up to the village and back down in less than five hours, give or take.

How ambiguous can I be? I hope that helps somewhat.

My apologies, Stephen! I stand corrected and will move you to the Coming List! You won't regret it as that mountain will be so pretty tomorrow - crystal clear!

thanks Mary for the ETA back to the park,

My friends at work (who are heading down to Glamis tonight after work) are telling me "dude you're not gonna make Glamis if you ride your bike, you'll be too tore up" etc.

They all go mud bogging in their lifted trucks in Azusa cyn, so they know those roads (39, east fork, etc)
"Dude those roads are twisty, it's a mean grade, you're riding to WHERE? Ahh man thats too far, you'll be tore up" blah blah blah

well we'll see, I dont want to miss out on the bloat ride, AND still make it down to Glamis with my homies for New Years.

Uh...you are SAL, right? The dude I met on a night ride, right? You will have NO problem on this ride as I recall you being a pretty fast and capable climber! This ride isn't too tiring, I can tell you, mainly because the second half is mostly downhill, making it a little easier (i.e. you aren't hit with an end climb that just wipes you out). But I can certainly understand the NY's thing!

I don't have the total elevation gain and the toporoute side doesn't calculate it. The reason I still use this site because you can click 10 miles up the road and the route automatically follows the road. Other sites I know of you have to click a billion times along the contour of the road to map the routes. This site is just quicker to use, especially in windy mountain roads.

That's ok we can be VC nazis and just take the lane like we are entitled to!

Actually, they have and will ticket cyclists right along with motorists who try to go through there (cars nor bikes are allowed). The ticket is $200. I'm going back on Foothill.

I'm out, and it looks like I will be out for a while My knee was killing me after only about 1000 feet of moderate climbing (Sepulveda/Mulholland). I have a doctor's appointment next week, so hopefully he can tell me what I did to my poor knee! This has been a pretty bad year back on the bike, but I'm addicted so I haven't given up yet.

Sorry to hear, UK! But knee issues are nothing to take lightly and perhaps is it something as simple as an alignment issue (you to your bike) which is easily fixed. But you definitely would not like that climb tomorrow if your knee started hurting! We'll see you on the next one.
