Hey, All. I'd like to go, but I just plotted the route onto Routeslip.com. I stopped where I think it was half-way (at tye lodge on Baldy). According to this map, it's about 40 miles to the lodge and 10,000 feet of climbing. Does this sound accurate? That's alot of climbing for me. I'd like to do it if it was still around 6,500 feet. I've done several rides so far of around 3,000-3,500 feet climbing and think I could handle the 6,500.

Here's the link:
https://www.routeslip.com/map.php?map=17451

Any corrections?

Mark...10k cant be right..I have done this ride to the village...up BIG GMR to GRR to the village was 22 miles ( a bit different from tomorrow route..which is supposed to be a bit easier)..yes definitely climbing...but I know you can do this!!! Probably 4500-5000ft...then mostly downhill on the way back..

EDIT:Mark..I think you added the ride to the lifts in there...most of us are only going to the village..as the climb to the lift is another 2000+ feet and is supposed to be particularly brutal...so just plan on going to the village and you will be fine

This ride is not 10K feet of climbing, that I can guarantee you. The exact gain, I don't know, I'll admit, but I've been told it is somewhere in the area of 6,000-6,500 feet. When I road this last year numerous times with a group who climb it often, I was told from Encanto up to Baldy is less than 5,000, but have since been corrected. I just don't know.

But, if you'd really like to join, please know that there are many points at which you can turn around and head back (although, I'd prefer not alone). If it makes you feel any better, I'm puffy (six pounds up) and not 100% right now due to travel, stress and, well, food! So, hang with me if you'd like as I won't be able to climb it as fast as some of the goats who are showing up. But as I've said ad nauseam, this is for fun and no one should be dying or hurting on the climbs. You might surprise yourself and one thing for sure - if the weather remains as forecasted, it will be stunningly beautiful up there!

Hope that helps you decide.

Check out the lifts at the right of that chart! Miles 36 to 40.5 are completely optional.

I am going to do the lifts, but as everyone seems to think that I am a billy goat and wants to climb like me... I'd better do the lifts just to show them that I can (there is no actual photographic evidence that I was ever up to the top...)

That I can't answer except to say that we will be stopping for water by about mile 15 and then heading up to Baldy. Once in the village, people can get water at the lodge or firehouse or trout pond. So, two water stops, essentially. I usually just take two water bottles and since it isn't predicted to get over 53 degrees up in those hills, I'm going to stick with that plan.

Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about the whole lift thing. You need to bring your tow rope, because you're going to pull me up to the lifts. Look at it like an upper body workout - a really good upper body workout!

I've never ridden up to the ski lifts either. If I make decent time to the village and if it's not too cold, I may attempt the ride up to the lifts.

So 15 miles...then another 15ish..hmmm I think I can do that...even if its a bit dry...that seems doable...cool...

+1 George. I don't think it will be too cold, but it is a timing factor. I'd like to at least try it even if I fall over in the attempt.

I guess I should clarify - the trout pond SELLS water. You don't have to dip your head in it.
